Four Syrians formally charged in Turkey over boat deaths - police chief| Reuters

BODRUM, Turkey A Turkish court remanded in custody four Syrians on Friday after a prosecutor charged them over the deaths of at least 12 people, including a 3-year-old boy, whose boat capsized as they tried to reach the Greek island of Kos, a local police chief told Reuters. Prosecutors charged the Syrians with smuggling migrants and causing multiple deaths by "conscious negligence" in connection with the drowning of the group after it set off from the Turkish resort peninsula of Bodrum. The picture of the drowned boy washed up on the beach in Turkey swept across social media and sparked outrage at the perceived inaction by developed countries to address the migrant crisis. #Syria #markets #Africa #United Kingdom #Turkey #opinion #India

Misplaced morality: If Aylan Kurdi's lifeless picture is violation, what is the Sheena Bora case?

The body of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi lying face down on the Turkish beach has indeed made the war in Syria real to many of us. What TOI did not mention is that it also finally made a dent in our own wall-to-wall banner headline coverage of the Indrani Mukerjea celebrity crime story. #Syria #Europe #InMyOpinion #photos #Syrian refugees #2011 Syrian Revolution #Aylan Kurdi

Dear EU leaders, how can you sleep with Aylan lying there, waters lapping against his body?

The irony, dear Aylan, who never had a life, is that you died in vain as eastern and western Europe point accusatory fingers at each other with many nations blaming Russia for the Syrian crisis. #Syria #InMemoriam #Angela Merkel #Germany #Hungary #Austria #Humanitarian crisis #Aylan Kurdi

Turkey extends mandate to send troops to Syria if needed| Reuters

ANKARA Turkey's parliament voted late on Thursday to extend by a year a mandate authorizing the deployment of troops to Syria and Iraq, weeks after it stepped up its role in the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State. The NATO member opened its air bases to coalition fighter jets in July and has since taken part in joint strikes for the first time on the radical Sunni militant group in northern Syria, ending years of reluctance to take a front-line role. #Syria #markets #Turkey #Iraq #Business

Canadian government under fire in case of drowned Syrian toddler| Reuters

VANCOUVER Canada's Conservative government came under fire on Thursday after reports the family of a Syrian toddler whose body washed up on a Turkish beach had wanted to emigrate to Canada, rattling Prime Minister Stephen Harper's re-election bid. A photograph of the tiny body of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi face down in the sand at the Aegean resort of Bodrum swept social media on Wednesday and appeared prominently on front pages on Thursday, spawning sympathy and outrage at the perceived inaction of developed nations in helping refugees. The boy's aunt, Vancouver resident Tima Kurdi, said she had hoped to bring her brother - the father of Aylan - and his family to Canada, but had first tried to sponsor another brother, currently in Germany, an application that was rejected #Syria #Europe #markets #Italy #Turkey #India
