Hamas stakes popularity on fight to break Gaza blockade

GAZA (Reuters) - After three weeks of intense fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, Hamas Islamists seem determined to wring clear concessions before halting fire. A brief lull in the conflict on Monday to coincide with a Muslim holiday gave Gazans a rare chance to venture outdoors, but despite the death and devastation all around them, there was no sign of a clamour for an end to the battle. Having suffered so much, many would see a truce that returned Gaza to the status quo under a stifling Israeli-Egyptian blockade as a defeat that could shred Hamas's already dented reputation at home #India #China #Business #Brazil #France #Arabic #Russia #United Kingdom #Latin America #Mexico #opinion

Islamic State militants open office for potential wives - monitor

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Islamic State insurgents have opened an office in northern Syria where single women and widows can register to marry fighters from the radical al Qaeda offshoot, a monitoring group said on Monday. The office in al-Bab, a town northeast of Aleppo city, records the names and addresses of the women so that Islamic State militants can go to their families and make a formal offer of marriage, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said #United States #China #Business #Syria #Brazil #Technology #Arabic #Russia #Italy #Argentina #Latin America #Entertainment

Baghdad police find 15 dead in bloody start to Muslim holiday

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi police found 15 corpses on Monday, including three women shot in the head, in a bloody start to the holiday ending the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, security sources said. In other violence, two roadside bombs - one in Baghdad and another just southeast of the capital - killed a total of seven people, police and medics said. This year's Eid al-Fitr festival, marking the end of Ramadan, is filled with uncertainty and apprehension as Sunni insurgents set their sights on Baghdad and politicians struggle to form a power-sharing government capable of tackling them. #facebook #France #Middle East #Russia #markets #Italy #Argentina #Mexico #Muslim #opinion
