UK anti-Semitic incidents soar in first half of year - report| Reuters

LONDON The number of recorded anti-Semitic incidents in Britain soared in the first six months of this year compared with 2014, probably due to a surge in reporting among fearful Jews, a report by a Jewish community body said on Thursday. There were 473 recorded incidents between January and June this year including two classified as "extreme violence", said the Community Security Trust (CST), which advises Britain's estimated 260,000 Jews on security #Religion #Islam #Europe #markets #United Kingdom

China jails nine more members of banned cult - Xinhua| Reuters

BEIJING A court in the central Chinese province of Hubei has jailed nine members of a banned religious cult for up to three years, state news agency Xinhua said on Sunday, a day after five others were sentenced in a northeastern province. China's Communist Party, obsessed with social stability, brooks no challenge to its rule and has cracked down on cults, which have multiplied in recent years. Demonstrations have been put down with force and some sect leaders executed. #India #Religion #Technology #Argentina #United Kingdom

Koran fragments found in UK library are among world's oldest, says university| Reuters

LONDON Fragments of a Koran manuscript found in a British university library are from one of the world's oldest surviving copies of the Islamic text, and may even have been written by someone who knew Prophet Mohammad, researchers said on Wednesday. Radiocarbon dating indicated that the parchment folios held by the University of Birmingham in central England were at least 1,370 years old, which would make them one of the earliest written forms of the Islamic holy book in existence. "They could well take us back to within a few years of the actual founding of Islam," said David Thomas, Professor of Christianity and Islam at the university. #Japan #Religion #Middle East #Europe #Education #markets #Entertainment
