Israel, Gaza militants agree to a 12-hour truce

GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel and Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip have agreed to a U.N.-requested 12-hour humanitarian truce to begin on Saturday morning, and efforts to secure a long-term cease-fire moved ahead. Florida boy gets prosthetic arm and hand from 3-D printer

ORLANDO Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida boy born without most of his right arm took home a new forearm and functioning hand on Friday made by a team of scientists using a 3-D printer - a method they hope will transform the way prosthetics are made, particularly for children. The prosthetic made for 6-year-old Alex Pring is among at least 50 created in the past year by a diffuse band of international contributors who collaborate online and print them out on 3-D printers, said Jon Schull, a Rochester Institute of Technology scientist who launched the online group last July. #Politics #China #Japan #France #Argentina #United Kingdom #Mexico #opinion

Tiny city of Caribou, Maine, faces secessionist movement

CARIBOU Maine (Reuters) - The city of Caribou, Maine, is home to less than 8,000 people, dozens of potato farms and, to the consternation of a small but vocal group of citizens, an airport, a recreation center and groomed snowmobile trails. Citing those amenities as evidence of excessive spending by city government, a group of Caribou residents have started a movement to secede from the northern Maine city, which is closer to Quebec City than Portland, the state's largest municipality. #Politics #India #Technology #Arabic #markets #United Kingdom #Latin America #Mexico

WHO seeks humanitarian corridor to evacuate Gaza wounded

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organisation (WHO) called on Friday for a humanitarian corridor to be set up in Gaza to allow aid workers to evacuate the wounded and bring in life-saving medicines. Even during wartime, belligerents are obligated under international humanitarian law to ensure that people are able to reach medical care in safety, the WHO and Red Cross said. Yet some sick and injured in Gaza are dying because of a lack of access to ambulances or health facilities, or the inability to leave the enclave for specialised treatment, the agencies said #facebook #Japan #Brazil #Technology #Israel #markets #Italy #Argentina #Mexico
