WHO seeks humanitarian corridor to evacuate Gaza wounded

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organisation (WHO) called on Friday for a humanitarian corridor to be set up in Gaza to allow aid workers to evacuate the wounded and bring in life-saving medicines. Even during wartime, belligerents are obligated under international humanitarian law to ensure that people are able to reach medical care in safety, the WHO and Red Cross said. Yet some sick and injured in Gaza are dying because of a lack of access to ambulances or health facilities, or the inability to leave the enclave for specialised treatment, the agencies said #facebook #Japan #Brazil #Technology #Israel #markets #Italy #Argentina #Mexico

Israel rejects ceasefire plan, source says as death toll nears 850

GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel rejected on Friday international proposals for a ceasefire in its fight against Islamist militants in Gaza, but is discussing changes to the truce plan with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, a government source said. Mediators hope that a truce could come into force ahead of a Muslim festival that starts early next week, but they have struggled to resolve seemingly irreconcilable demands from Israel and Hamas-led fighters, locked in conflict since July 8 #Brazil #Technology #France #Russia #Italy #Argentina #Mexico #opinion

Grieving Dutch minister made Europe re-think Russia sanctions

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - When Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans spoke to his European Union peers of his grief and anger over the downing of a Malaysia Airlines airliner over eastern Ukraine, it was a turning point in Europe's approach to Russia. Several ministers had tears in their eyes when Timmermans said he had known personally some of the 194 Dutch passengers among the 298 people who died on the plane, which Washington believes pro-Russian separatists shot down in error. "To my dying day I will not understand that it took so much time for the rescue workers to be allowed to do their difficult job, and that human remains should be used in a political game," Timmermans told the U.N #facebook #India #Business #Brazil #Technology #Arabic #Russia #Italy #United Kingdom #Mexico

U.S. says Russia firing artillery over border at Ukraine military

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States said on Thursday that Russia was firing artillery across its border with Ukraine to target Ukrainian military positions in the conflict with pro-Russian separatists. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf also said there was evidence that the Russians intended to deliver heavier and more powerful multiple rocket launchers to the separatist forces. Harf, speaking at a regular media briefing, cited intelligence reports but said she could give no more information of what the reports were based on. #Brazil #Technology #Arabic #Middle East #Russia #Italy #Argentina #United Kingdom #Latin America #Entertainment #Ukraine #opinion
