Sudanese migrant stabs Israeli soldier, is shot dead - police | Reuters

JERUSALEM A Sudanese migrant in Israel stabbed and wounded a soldier in an apparent act of solidarity with Palestinians and was shot dead, police said. If that motive is confirmed, it would be the first such attack by a foreigner during a four-month-old surge of Palestinian street violence fuelled in part by Muslim anger at perceived Jewish encroachment on a contested Jerusalem shrine. #Islam #Israel #Crime #Argentina #Latin America #opinion

France accuses Syria, allies of 'torpedoing' Geneva peace talks | Reuters

GENEVA French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius accused the Syrian government and its allies of "torpedoing" peace talks in Geneva with a Russian-backed offensive on the city of Aleppo. "We condemn the Syrian regime's brutal offensive with support from Russia to surround and suffocate Aleppo," Fabius said in a statement. "France fully supports the (United Nations) special envoy's decision to suspend negotiations to which neither Bashar al-Assad's regime nor his allies clearly want to contribute in good faith, thus torpedoing peace efforts," he added #United States #Business #Syria #Islam #Russia #Israel

Netanyahu rejects French ultimatum on Palestinian statehood | Reuters

JERUSALEM Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Sunday for a more "sober" approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in dismissing a French peace initiative as only encouraging Palestinians to shun compromise. The proposal on Friday by French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius for an international peace conference was the latest sign of Western frustration over the absence of movement toward a two-state solution since the collapse of U.S.-brokered negotiations in 2014. #Business #Middle East #Europe #Israel #Argentina #United Kingdom #Latin America

Canada government to send 'tough message' to Israel as a 'good friend' | Reuters

OTTAWA Canada's new Liberal government said on Monday it was delivering a "tough message" to Israel as a good friend after expressing concern about Israeli-Palestinian violence, Israeli settlements and unilateral Palestinian moves. The statement came a day after Foreign Minister Stephane Dion was criticized for saying Palestinian initiatives towards statehood in international forums and continued Israeli settlements were unhelpful. "We're steadfast allies and good friends, and good friends can occasionally deliver tough messages, but it's by no means to suggest that we're somehow retreating from any kind of support of Israel," said Joe Pickerill, Dion's spokesman #Politics #United States #Europe #Israel #Crime #Foreign policy #author
