Battling radicalism with Sufism: Is Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind using Ajmer Sharif for political gains?

While at one end the Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind is using Sufism to appeal to the liberal Muslims in India, its rejection to identify it as a part of Islam shows its dual political stand, which also spans across issues like Triple Talaq and uniform civil code #Islam #InMyOpinion #Deobandi #Ajmer #Uniform Civil Code #Sufism #Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind #islamic-state #UCC #Islamic Radicalisation #Radicalisation #radicalism #Daesh #Salafism #Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Gharib Nawaz #World Sufi Forum #JUH #Barelvi #Ahl-e-Hadith #JUH Ajmer conference #Maulana Mahmood Madani

Ohio State attacker may have self-radicalised, officials say | Reuters

By Mark Hosenball and Kim Palmer | WASHINGTON/COLUMBUS, Ohio WASHINGTON/COLUMBUS, Ohio A Somali immigrant who injured 11 people at Ohio State University in a vehicle and stabbing attack before he was shot dead may have followed the same path to self-radicalisation as militants in a number of "lone wolf" attacks, U.S. officials said on Tuesday. The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility on Tuesday for the attack. Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 20, was shot dead by a police officer on Monday moments after he ploughed his car into a crowd of pedestrians and then leapt out and began stabbing people with a butcher knife.Investigators were probing the background of Artan, a Muslim who was a lawful permanent resident of the United States and a student at Ohio State.Police have given no motive for the attack on the Columbus campus. So far, investigators have found no strong evidence linking Artan to other known militant individuals, cells or groups, said two federal law enforcement officials, who declined to be named because the probe is ongoing.Artan's actions fit the pattern of lone-wolf militants who carried out other attacks in the United States, such as the gunman who shot to death 49 people at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in June, and the man who killed four U.S. #United States #Islam #Middle East #Entertainment #university

France, Britain push Syria gas attack sanctions; Russia opposed | Reuters

By Michelle Nichols | UNITED NATIONS UNITED NATIONS France and Britain are pressing to sanction those responsible for chemical weapons attacks in Syria, though Russia says it would not support a United Nations Security Council resolution. An inquiry by the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) found that Syrian government forces were responsible for three chlorine gas attacks and that Islamic State militants had used mustard gas.French U.N. Ambassador Francois Delattre said on Tuesday that a draft resolution "sanctioning those responsible for the use of chemical weapons" was essentially ready and would be circulated to the 15-member council as soon as possible. #Syria #Islam #France #Middle East #United Kingdom #crisis

Russia says Syrian army Aleppo advance boon not curse for civilians | Reuters

By Andrew Osborn | MOSCOW MOSCOW Russia said on Tuesday that a Syrian army breakthrough in Aleppo had dramatically altered the situation on the ground, allowing more than 80,000 civilians to obtain humanitarian aid after years of being used as "human shields" by rebels.Moscow is helping forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad try to take back full control of the shattered city by providing training, equipment, advice and intermittent air support. On Monday, the Syrian army and its allies announced the capture of a large swathe of eastern Aleppo from rebels in an accelerating attack that threatens to crush the opposition in its most important urban stronghold."During the last 24 hours, thanks to very well prepared and careful actions, Syrian soldiers were able to radically change the situation," Major-General Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Russian defence ministry, said in a statement. #India #Business #Islam #France #Middle East #markets #crisis
