Islamic State claims fatal stabbing of Bangladeshi Hindu - monitor SITE | Reuters

DHAKA Islamic State claimed responsibility for stabbing an elderly Hindu businessman to death in Bangladesh, monitoring service SITE said on Wednesday, in what would be the second killing by the militant group in the country in less than a week. The Muslim-majority South Asian nation has witnessed a surge in Islamist violence in the past year in which members of religious minorities, liberal activists, academics and foreign aid workers have been killed. Debesh Chandra Pramanik, 68, a shoe trader, was found hacked to death in his shop on Wednesday in the northwestern rural district of Gaibandha, police said. #United States #Islam #Middle East #Argentina #United Kingdom #Copyright #Entertainment

Chocolate bar wrappers ignite German row over racism | Reuters

BERLIN Online debate raged in Germany on Wednesday after supporters of anti-Islam group Pegida criticized a confectioner's decision to print images of non-white soccer players on its chocolate bars instead of the usual picture of a blond-haired, blue-eyed boy. Italian confectionery group Ferrero has temporarily changed the pictures on its 'Kinder Schokolade' (Children Chocolate) in Germany to celebrate the European Soccer Championship, which kicks off on June 10 in France. The new packaging shows childhood pictures of players such as Jerome Boateng, son of a Ghanaian immigrant, and Ilkay Gundogan, whose parents were born in Turkey #India #Business #Islam #markets #United Kingdom #article

Iraqi forces prepare offensive on IS-held Falluja, some residents begin to flee | Reuters

BAGHDAD Iraq's military said on Sunday it was preparing to launch an offensive to retake the Islamic State stronghold of Falluja and told residents to get ready to leave before fighting started. Families who could not flee should raise white flags to mark their location in the city 50 km (30 miles) west of Baghdad, the military's media unit said in a statement on state television. Falluja, a long-time bastion of Sunni Muslim jihadists, was the first city to fall to Islamic State, in January 2014, six months before the group swept through large parts of Iraq and neighbouring Syria. #Economy #Business #Islam #science #crisis

FSA rebels to Syrian army: End assault within 48 hours or truce finished | Reuters

AMMAN Mainstream Syrian rebel groups said on Sunday they would no longer abide by a threadbare "cessation of hostilities" deal unless the Syrian army ended a major assault on their positions in the suburbs of Damascus within 48 hours. A statement by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) signed by nearly 40 rebel groups that operate across Syria said the ceasefire would be deemed to have "totally collapsed" if the large scale assault by Syrian government and allied Lebanese Hezbollah forces fighters, who seized an extensive area southeast of the capital on Thursday, did not cease within two days. The rebel-held town of Daraya, located just a few kilometres (miles) from President Bashar al-Assad's Damascus palace, was also pounded for the first time since the broader "cessation of hostilities" accord that took effect at the end of February #India #Islam #Europe #Iran #Argentina #article
