With "Big Tiger" caught, Chinese media can finally name its prey

BEIJING (Reuters) - "Big Tiger" is gone. "Master Kang" has disappeared. The various euphemisms Chinese media have used to describe a once powerful domestic security tsar are no longer necessary, after the Communist Party announced on Tuesday that it had launched a corruption investigation into Zhou Yongkang #facebook #United States #India #Japan #Brazil #Russia #Latin America #Mexico #opinion

Thai junta to keep tight grip after transfer of power

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's military makes way for a new administration in coming weeks, but the generals will keep a tight grip on power by filling an interim cabinet and legislature with soldiers, military sources said on Wednesday. The armed forces took power on May 22 in a bloodless coup following six months of street demonstrations that contributed to the ousting of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. The junta has since purged officials linked to Yingluck and her brother, Thaksin, a former premier himself and widely seen as the power behind Yingluck's government. #India #Business #Technology #France #Arabic #Middle East #markets #United Kingdom #military #Entertainment #opinion

Turkish women laugh online to protest deputy PM's remarks

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Hundreds of Turkish women posted pictures of themselves laughing on Twitter on Wednesday to protest comments by Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc, who had urged women not to laugh in public to "protect moral values". Melda Onur, a lawmaker from the main opposition party CHP, said on Twitter that Arinc's comments portrayed laughing as a dishonourable act and left women exposed to violence. Arinc criticised the media on Wednesday for taking his comments out of context and focusing on a small part of his speech, in which he said he advised both men and women to adopt "ethical behaviours" #United States #India #Japan #Brazil #France #Arabic #Russia #Argentina #United Kingdom

BENGHAZI Libya (Reuters) - At least 75 bodies, mostly soldiers, have been found in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi after two days of fighting in which Islamist fighters and allied militiamen overran an army base, the Libyan Red Crescent and medical sources said. The Red Crescent found more than 50 bodies inside the base, which special forces abandoned on Tuesday. "We are trying to get them out of the base," said Mohammed al-Misrati, from the Red Crescent #facebook #United States #India #Business #Japan #France #Middle East #Russia #United Kingdom #Mexico #opinion

Some Ukrainian rebels vent frustration with Putin

DONETSK Ukraine (Reuters) - Western leaders may be Vladimir Putin's biggest critics over the conflict in east Ukraine but the Russian leader is also facing criticism from some of the rebels they accuse him of arming. The European Union and the United States have imposed new sanctions on Russia because they say Putin has not done enough to persuade the pro-Russian separatists to stop fighting and is supplying them with weapons. #facebook #India #China #Business #Brazil #Russia #Ukraine #russian
