Italy demands justice for slain student, Egypt rejects accusations | Reuters

ROME/CAIRO Italy demanded on Monday that Egypt catch and punish those responsible for the death of a student found tortured by a roadside in Cairo, and the Egyptian government dismissed suggestions its security services could have been involved. Giulio Regeni, a 28-year-old graduate student at Britain's Cambridge University, had been researching independent trade unions in Egypt and had written articles critical of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government. The incident has strained ties between Rome and Cairo, which has made no arrests so far #India #Egypt #Technology #Middle East #Europe #markets #opinion

African Union backs away from imposing peacekeepers on Burundi | Reuters

ADDIS ABABA The African Union will send a team to Burundi to try to convince the government to accept a peacekeeping force that it had rejected, backing away from an earlier plan to send them with or without consent, a top AU official said. The AU's Peace and Security Council announced plans to deploy a 5,000-strong force in December, saying it would, if necessary, invoke an article of the AU's charter that allowed it to intervene whether or not the government agreed. After President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose bid for a third term sparked the crisis, refused to accept the force, some AU members appear to have wavered #India #Egypt #Technology #Africa #Latin America

"Contrary to recent media speculation, we can categorically confirm that there have been no arrests in connection to the ongoing investigations into the causes of the Metrojet crash," the Interior Ministry said. #Egypt #Technology #Africa #Crime #article
