Kazakhstan bans rallies, fearing Ukraine-style turmoil - U.N. report

ALMATY (Reuters) - Kazakhstan says it has clamped down on peaceful rallies out of fear of a repeat of the protests that brought chaos to Ukraine, a United Nations special rapporteur said in a critical report on the central Asian state. Kazakhstan's strongman President Nursultan Nazarbayev has sought to play the role of peacemaker in the Ukraine conflict, that was triggered by popular protests that forced the then President Viktor Yanukovich to flee the country in 2014 #United States #India #China #Brazil #France #Arabic #Middle East #Russia #markets #Latin America #Mexico #opinion

Greek PM Tsipras promises radical change, markets tumble

ATHENS (Reuters) - Leftwing Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras threw down an open challenge to international creditors on Wednesday by halting privatisation plans agreed under the country's bailout deal, prompting a third day of heavy losses on financial markets. A swift series of announcements signalled the newly installed government would stand by its anti-austerity pledges, setting it on course for a clash with European partners, led by Germany, which has said it will not renegotiate the aid package needed to help Greece pay its debts. Tsipras told the first meeting of his cabinet members that they could not afford to disappoint the voters who gave them a mandate in Sunday's election, which his Syriza party won decisively. #Business #facebook #United States #China #Technology #France #Russia #United Kingdom #Latin America #author #european
