England 149-4 after 18.4 overs
Bairstow 5, Buttler 5
England were just too good for New Zealand. Finn was brilliant with the ball and Wright chipped in with another classic T20 knock to seal the deal.
England 142-4 after 18.4 overs
L Wright c Taylor b Bracewell 76 (43b, 5×4, 5×6)
Brilliant knock by Wright to add to his 99 earlier in the tournament. He has almost single-handedly ensured that England have a chance of making it to the semis. England need 7 off 10 balls to win.
England 127-3 after 16.2 overs
EJG Morgan c Bracewell b Mills 30 (31b, 1×4, 1×6)
England have lost their third wicket, great catch by Doug Bracewell in the deep but the defending champions are almost home. Wright is playing a blinder, he has made 67 off 38 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours.
England 95-2 after 14 overs
Wright 38, Morgan 26
Morgan’s doing most of the run scoring but Wright needs to join the party pretty quickly. England need 54 runs to win off 36 balls at 9.00 runs per over.
England 70-2 after 11 overs
Wright 33, Morgan 9
England don’t have a lot of runs to make so they can still afford to take it easy for a few overs, build a partnership and then go after the bowling. Wright and Morgan are doing just that.
England 38-2 after 6.2 overs
AD Hales b NL McCullum 22 (15b, 3×4, 0×6)
England’s struggle against spin continues. One can almost imagine every spinner in India lining up to bowl against them in the Tests.
England 22-1 after 4 overs
Craig Kieswetter b Vettori 4 (14b, 0×4, 0×6)
Kieswetter just cannot get any runs on the board! He’s lost his wicket early on again as Vettori’s flight fools him. England are still scoring at a good rate but cannot afford a tumble.
England 18-0 after 2 overs
Hales 16, Kieswetter 2
England have certainly learned from what happened against Pakistan. Both batsmen still at the crease at the end of two overs. Hales looking particularly brilliant as he hits Southee to all parts of the field for three boundaries in an over.
ENGLAND COME OUT TO BAT
WICKET! New Zealand 148-6 after 20 overs
James Franklin run out 50 (33b, 4×4, 2×6)
Franklin’s brilliant half-century has given New Zealand some hope in this match. This is the third low-scoring match we’ve had since yesterday and England know that they can take nothing for granted. They need a good start to ensure that the run-chase is smooth.
WICKET! New Zealand 107-5 after 16.2 overs
Ross Taylor c Hales b Finn 22 (23b, 2×4, 0×6)
Ideally, you would trust Taylor to put that away, but he cannot clear the fielder in the deep mid-wicket area. Finn gets his third wicket and NZ need Franklin to stay on till the end and provide some late fireworks.
WICKET! New Zealand 67-4 after 12 overs
Kane Williamson c Kieswetter b Briggs 17 (23b, 1×4, 0×6)
That should make Briggs’ debut one to remember. He’s removed Williamson, who was slowly settling into a rhythm with Taylor. Franklin will come to bat now after Williamson’s cut attempt takes an edge before the wicket-keeper takes.
New Zealand 58-3 after 10 overs
Williamson 13, Taylor 10
Just the one boundary since the 6th over has been scored and it comes off the bat of Ross Taylor. He hammers it past mid-wicket and the fielder had no chance. NZ have stopped the regular fall of wickets, but these two need to stick on.
WICKET! New Zealand 42-3 after 7 overs
Rob Nicol c Bairstow b Swann 11 (15b, 1×4, 0×6)
Nicol knows NZ need some quick runs but in his quest for a boundary, he’s picked out a man on the ropes. Swann gets a wicket in his first over and the Kiwis desperately need a partnership now.
New Zealand 39-2 after 6 overs
Nicol 10, Williamson 7
After a brilliant Bresnan over, Williamson takes advantage of a short ball to slap it away through the covers for four before Nicol punches through the on-side for four more. That should lift the gloom a bit as NZ get ready for a field without restrictions.
WICKET! New Zealand 20-2 after 3.4 overs
Brendon McCullum c Wright b Finn 10 (10b, 2×4, 0×6)
There we go…! McCullum shows his careless streak and goes for a big shot and manages to just slice it straight to third-man. Finn is doing the damage for England.
New Zealand 19-1 after 3 overs
McCullum 10, Nicol 3
McCullum’s has already started his hitting. He smashes two fours straight past Briggs. Nicol is just providing simple support on the other end.
WICKET! New Zealand 7-1 after 1.3 overs
Martin Guptill lbw b Finn 5 (6b, 1×4, 0×6)
Guptill is clearly in two minds over which shot he should play… the ball smacks his pads and Finn has got him out LBW.
New Zealand 6-0 after 1 over
Guptill 5, Nicol 1
Guptill opens the boundaries account as he splits open the on-side field. Briggs, who makes his debut today, hasn’t had a bad first over though.
England have included Danny Briggs for his first T20 international match. Remember, if they lose this game, then the champions will be knocked out.
