Wimbledon: Paes-Vesnina, Bopanna-Zheng in mixed QF

London: India’s Leander Paes and his Russian partner Elena Vesnina cruised into the third round of the Wimbledon mixed doubles here on Wednesday.

Another Indian, Rohan Bopanna, and his Chinese partner Jie Zheng had it easy via a second round walkover from Marcelo Melo of Brazil and Vera Zvonareva of Russia.

The fourth-seeded Indo-Russian pair won 6-3, 6-3 against the unseeded duo of Ashley Fisher of Australia and Mona Bartheli of Germany.

Paes and Vesnina next face the Belarussian pair of Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka.

Mirnyi and Azarenka won 6-3, 6-2 against the 13th seeded Italian pair of Fabio Fogini and Sara Errani.

Bopanna and Jie next face the sixth seeded Italian pair of Daniele Bracciali and Robert Vinci.

The Italians won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 against German duo Phillip Petzschner and Angelique Kerber.
