Wimbledon: Navratilova takes Kvitova down memory lane

Jun 26, 2012

“It’s already been done before, so all you have to do is repeat it,” quips Martina Navratilova to Petra Kvitova regarding the former champions six consecutive Wimbledon wins.

“I will try this year,” says the reigning Wimbledon champion as she tries to digest the incredible achievements of Navratilova.

The 55-year-old then goes on to say that the 1980s were very good for her. In a short video, the ex-champion talks to the current one about experiences in the tennis world’s most famous championship.

“I can’t find the words. It was so special. I’ve held many trophies before but this was unbelievable,” said Kvitova about her victory.

But for Navratilova, it was a bit different: “I forgot to put on my sweater before lifting the plate! But really, the feeling of holding that plate for the first time is well… pretty cool.”

The 22-year-old Kvitova still has a long way to go before she emulates other greats, but on being asked how many she would like to win, she was quick to say: “Nine.”
