One of India's best middle-order batsmen, VVS Laxman, is now cooling his heels at home and his retirement raises plenty of questions.
Rahul Dravid's retirement after a torrid tour of Australia was in a way expected. He had dropped enough hints along the way.
But VVS Laxman didn't talk about retirement then and his decision to quit the game just a few days before a Test tour was about to begin, strikes one as odd.
Having put himself up for selection for the team, Laxman decided to withdraw. Whether it was his compulsions or was he plagued by self doubt -- one will never know. But senior sports writer Ayaz Memon tries to unravel the mystery.
Laxman's decision to 'immediately' retire and not even play a Test match in Hyderabad, left outgoing chairman of selectors Srikkanth stuck for words. And that doesn't really happen too often.
So why did he pull out? Was it something that Srikkanth said or did BCCI president N Srinivasan have a word with him or was it because skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn't give the senior batsman the support he needed?
Watch the video above to find out.
