A day after Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray was cremated, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar paid a condolence visit to the family on Monday. Sachin was accompanied by his wife Anjali when he visited Matoshree on Monday night.
The cricketer was away in Ahmedabad for the Test match against England, which India won by 9 wickets, when Thackeray died on Saturday. Tendulkar had then said he was saddened to hear about Thackeray's demise, saying the Shiv Sena chief would always be remembered and missed.
"Really sad to hear about Balasaheb's demise. His contribution to Maharashtra was immense. It's a terrible loss and he will always be remembered and missed. Unfortunately I am in Ahmedabad as I would have liked to pay my last respects personally. My condolences to his family. May God rest his soul in peace," Tendulker had said.
The Shiv Sena chief's cortege in Mumbai, which stretched 2 kms, is believed to have drawn a crowd of nearly 1 million who lined the route from Kalanagar to Shivaji Park. Among other celebrities who attended the funeral were Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt.
