Sachin wants sports made compulsory in schools

Sachin Tendulkar has officially begun his innings as a Rajya Sabha MP by coming up with a detailed plan to promote sports at grassroots level.

A report in the Indian Express says that Tendulkar has written his first letter as MP on a matter of national interest. The star batsman wrote to Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal expressing concern over how sports is neglected in schools and sought to meet him regarding a proposal.

Sachin wants to integrate sport in education and make it a compulsory activity. The ministry has considered the initiative and has invited him for a detailed discussion. PTI

“We welcome Sachin Tendulkar’s proposal and I have already written to him inviting him for a presentation so that the details can be talked through. Once that is done, we will ask both CBSE and NCERT to look into how sports can be made an integral part of the school curriculum”, Sibal was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
