Remember Paul, the Octopus?
The Cephalopod gained international fame during the 2010 World Cup when he accurately predicted the outcomes of all six of Germany’s matches. He had also correctly predicted the outcome of the final — picking Spain to win – leaving the World Cup with a 100 percent success rate. He died in October 2010 but football fans all over the world still remember him fondly.
Now as the action kicks off in France at the Euro 2016, there is a new animal oracle in town. Marcus is a psychic pig, which had a 100 percent success rate, until very recently.
Also known as ‘Mystic Marcus’ (of course), the six-year-old black micro pig “predicts” sports results by choosing from a selection of labelled apples. The apples each have a piece of paper on top with the name of a team or player.
“Mystic Marcus has so far never ever been wrong in his predictions of top sporting events, including Wimbledon and the football World Cup and Derby County not going up last year,” his owner Juliette Stevens told Metro.co.uk in May.
Marcus’ last prediction — Derby County winning the semi-finals against Hull City in the Championship — turned out to be proven wrong as the Rams narrowly missed out over two legs, 2-3.
But now he has turned his attention to Euro 2016! The pig from Derbyshire in England wants to redeem his record and has looked into his metaphorical crystal ball for the Three Lions’ opening Group B match.
England take on Russia on Saturday having not reached a global or European final since their 1966 World Cup triumph and it is 20 years since they even made a semi-final, also on home soil, in the 1996 Euros. But this year, they have a fresh crop of youngsters playing a different, attacking style of football.
So, what has Mystic Marcus prophesised? Watch the video above to find out!
