Mary Kom wants peace and a Bangalore home

by Aug 23, 2012

Mumbai: Although Olympic medal winner Mary Kom is unhappy with the alleged violence against the people from the North East recently mostly in the southern states, the star boxer is not averse to settling down in Bangalore.

“Not for an academy but as a place Bangalore is very nice. I would actually like to shift to Bangalore. The weather is nice and the sporting culture is nice,” she told reporters in Mumbai.

Bangalore was in the news recently with many North Easterners fleeing the city fearing attacks after Eid on 20 August.

“We win medals and come to the country and this happens. I don’t feel good after seeing all this. We are one nation and being happy together is the only way we can progress. If we were competing and this would happen its very hard to focus on winning,” the boxer fromn Manipur said talking about the country’s peace and unity.

On being asked who she had spoken to after winning the medal, Mary said, “It was all so fast I can’t quite remember.”
