Live Scores: Super Shami reverse swings India to easy win

Day 3: Detailed scorecard here

Shami gets his 5th wicket!

BOWLED! WI 168 all out. Shami gets his fifth wicket, reverse swing again. India win with so much ease. India win by an innings and 51 runs. Shami finishes with 5-47. Ashwin has 3-46. Wow. A win inside three days -- who would've thought that was possible.

Shami finishes with match figures of 9-118, second best bowling figures on debut for India after Hirwani's 16-136 vs West Indies in 1988. Shami's performance is the best by any pace-bowler vs WI on Test debut, beating England bowler Bill Copson's 9/152 Lord's 1939.

S Cottrell b Mohammed Shami 5 (7b, 1x4)

Shami effect
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 152-9 after 51.3 overs

Ashwin tossed it up and Best went for the big shot that went straight to the fielder in the deep. He was set up beautifully. This match is going to end today.

Shami effect
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 152-8 after 48.5 overs

RUN OUT! Shami's delivery had Permaul in trouble. A big appeal and Permaul wandered out of his crease. Got run out.

V Permaul run out 0 (1b)

Shami magic!
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 152-7 after 48.4 overs

An Indian paceman is running through the opposition -- when did we last see that happen? Frankly, it takes some recalling. Shami got it to reverse and that did the trick again. That's 8 wickets in the match for Shami.

S Shillingford b Mohammed Shami 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Shami does it again!
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 152-6 after 48.2 overs

Reverse swing and Sammy had no answer. It swerved in and hit the middle of the middle stump. 140Ks and Ganguly can't stop praising him and it all deserved.

D Sammy b Mohammed Shami 8 (29b 1x4 0x6) SR: 27.58

Chanders, Sammy hang on
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 152-5 after 48 overs

Sammy has so far avoided going for the big shot that brought about his downfall in the first innings. He is keeping it real so far. West Indies trail by 67 runs with 5 wickets remaining -- looks like Sachin will get another bat after all.

Chanders bats on
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 137-5 after 44 overs

Really is boring cricket now. West Indies don't have much of a chance now. Chanderpaul will believe otherwise but can anyone stand with him?

Shami strikes again
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 125-5 after 38 overs

Shami making brilliant use of reverse swing here. He got a few to leave the batsmen and then the one that got Ramdin came into him and bounced as well. Bat, pad and straight to short leg. Easy catch. Shami has figures of 8-0-36-2. Chanderpaul stands alone... again.

D Ramdin c Vijay b Mohammed Shami 1 (16b)

The pitch comes into play
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 120-4 after 34.3 overs

WICKET! Bravo done in by the extra bounce Ashwin got out of the rough. Caught by Kohli at point. Yesterday, just after the break Darren Sammy had brought himself on and that allowed the batsmen to settle in. Dhoni didn't make the same mistake.

D Bravo c Sharma b Ashwin 37 (78b, 4x4)

Time for tea
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 112-3 after 33 overs

Bhuvi got the danger man, Chris Gayle, with a bouncer. BCCI

Bhuvi got the danger man, Chris Gayle, with a bouncer. BCCI

One wicket each for Bhuvi, Shami and Ashwin. Ojha should have had a wicket too. West Indies have scored some runs but they have lost three wickets and that will hurt them.

WICKET!
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 110-3 after 31.6 overs

WICKET! WI 110-3. Shami gets Samuels out -- trapped lbw. The ball reversed and hit Samuels in line with leg-stump. Replays show that it might have missed leg-stump. Llong was perhaps wrong again. Chanderpaul is in next.

M Samuels lbw b Mohammed Shami 4 (5b, 1x4)

WICKET!
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 101-2 after 30.4 overs

Ball kept low, Ashwin gets the wicket. Powell is the man gone, he made 36. He was dropped on 7 but played good cricket after that.

K Powell lbw b Ashwin 36 (83b, 5x4)

Steady stuff
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 95-1 after 29 overs

Good, steady cricket by the West Indians. They have batted pretty well and have been largely untroubled by the Indian bowling.

Positive cricket
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 84-1 after 27 overs

Tendulkar from one end and Ojha from the other. The West Indies batsmen aren't going into a shell, they are playing their shots and making sure that the scoreboard keeps ticking along.

Some turn and bounce
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 55-1 after 20 overs

Ashwin is giving the ball a lot of air and in return he is getting some turn and bounce. Nothing too alarming though. WI batsmen are settling in slowly but with Gayle gone, there is no excitement.

Dropping catches
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 52-1 after 17 overs

Bhuvi dropped a sitter when Powell was on 7 to give the WI opener a life. He went for the sweep shot and got a top edge that went straight to the bowler at deep square leg. West Indies trail by 167 runs with 9 wickets remaining.

Gayle gone!
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 33-1 after 10 overs

Short ball from Bhuvi does the trick for India -- Gayle had let a similar ball earlier in the over go through. But the temptation was too much to resist -- he went for the pull, it hit high on the bat and ballooned up to square leg.

C Gayle c Kohli b Kumar 33 (35b, 7x4)

Ashwin slows run flow
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 25-0 after 9 overs

Just two runs in the last over -- the introduction of Ashwin has the batsmen becoming much more circumspect.

Gayle's feet start moving
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 23-0 after 6 overs

Another two four for Gayle. The feet are starting to move a little, the balance is better too. He is staying positive and India will need to guard against him getting going. Gayle has 22 off the 23 runs. Ashwin into the attack now.

Good bowling by India
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 15-0 after 5 overs

Bhuvi and Shami are making the batsmen play all the time, something that the West Indies bowlers struggled to do. It at least gives the bowlers a chance. All 15 runs scored so far are by Gayle.

Will Gayle fire?
WI first innings: 234 all out; India first innings: 453 all out
WI 9-0 after 2 overs

Gayle is still tentative with his footwork. A streaky edge went through the slip area for four and then he punched one down the ground for another four.

All out!
India 453 all out after 129.4 overs

All over for India -- it ended quickly after the fall of Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin's knocks. But India have a lead of 219 runs and that should be enough -- more than enough. Lunch has been taken and it will be interesting to see the approach of the West Indian batsmen after the break. Will Gayle get aggressive and go after the bowlers? The longer the match wears on, the more difficult batting will become.

One man show
India 451-9 after 128.1 overs

Shillingford has his sixth wicket. This really has been a one man show. It would really help to have Roach back in the mix for the second Test. Bhuvneshwar edged that on to the pads and it was then picked up in the slips.

B Kumar c Gayle b Shillingford 12 (20b, 2x4)

Shillingford gets five
India 444-8 after 126.3 overs

Ashwin is gone too. How often do you see one wicket follow another after a long partnership... Ashwin was dropped off a couple of deliveries back and then Shillingford pitched it up and the batsman didn't connect with the sweep shot. This is the 4th time in a row that Shillingford has picked five in an innings.

R Ashwin b Shillingford 124 (210b, 11x4)

A splendid knock
India 436-7 after 123.1 overs
WICKET! Rohit Sharma trapped lbw, padding up. The batsman stood in his crease... stunned. But eventually had to walk away. It was turning and might have missed the off-stump.

R Sharma lbw b Permaul 177 (301b, 23x4, 1x6)

Sachin can rest easy
India 436-6 after 123 overs
Rohit 177, Ashwin 122

India are now 202 runs ahead and Sachin Tendulkar will probably not have to bat again.

Records start falling
India 420-6 after 119 overs
Rohit 166, Ashwin 118

The current partnership between Rohit and Ashwin is now worth 264 runs -- the highest ever for the 7th wicket for India. They went past the 259 runs put on by Laxman and Dhoni vs SA in Kolkata 2010. Also the highest by any pair (for any country) in India.

Time for Drinks!
India 413-6 after 117 overs
Rohit 159, Ashwin 118

India have got through the first hour without any alarms. In fact, West Indies should be worried -- this match is pretty much over but for an exceptional innings by 2 maybe 3 of their batsmen. 15 overs, 59 runs, 0 wickets in the first hour.

A few more shots
India 403-6 after 114 overs
Rohit 157, Ashwin 111

A four off a short ball brings up the 400 for India. It seems hard to imagine that India were 83-5 at one stage. A tremendous recovery this.

Too easy
India 391-6 after 110 overs
Rohit 150, Ashwin 106

There is absolutely no venom in the bowling. Ashwin and Rohit are playing with ease and soon, the records will start to tumble. One record already has. The partnership is already worth 233 runs -- a record for India vs the West Indies. Rohit Sharma gets his 150 -- he becomes the second Indian to score 150+ on Test debut after Dhawan.

Ashwin gets second Test ton
India 368-6 after 105.5 overs

And that's the second Test ton for R Ashwin -- both have come against the West Indies. He has been simply superb and now will have his sights on a big hundred that will allow India to push home the advantage. It has taken him 159 balls.

Good start
India 366-6 after 104 overs
Rohit 133, Ashwin 98

Tino Best conceded 11 runs in the second over off the morning session. He is getting some reverse swing but hasn't got the line right. Rohit and Ashwin are looking comfortable.

Day 3

Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin will look for big hundreds today. BCCI

Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin will look for big hundreds today. BCCI

Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin will look to go on and get the 'Big Daddy' hundreds today. If they do that Sachin Tendulkar may not bat again. But West Indies have done well in the first session on the first two days and they will need to be careful.

Close of play on day 2
WI first innings: 234 all out
Ind 354-6 after 102 overs
Sharma 127, Ashwin 92

What a day for India… what a day for Rohit Sharma. He came in when India were 83-5 and then built up a partnership with Dhoni to get India back in the match. When Dhoni fell, Rohit didn’t panic. In the company of R Ashwin — who also batted brilliantly for his 92 — stitched together an unbroken 198-run partnership in 50.5 overs to virtually bat West Indies out of the match.

India lead by 120 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings and it’s not going to be easy for the Windies to fight their way back into the match. Shillingford was the best bowler for WI — 41-8-130-4 but the others simply had no plan.

Rohit Sharma (after the close of play): There was a lot of pressure as we lost 5 early wickets. Once I get back to the hotel room, maybe it will sink in. Test hundred is always special and getting it on debut is even more special. I was very much focused to take advantage of the opportunity I got.
