Defending champion Li Na raced into the French Open third round when she brushed aside Frenchwoman Stephane Foretz Gacon 6-0 6-2 on Thursday.
Chinese seventh seed Li, who last year became the first Asian player to win a grand slam singles title, needed just 52 minutes to advance on Court One.
Foretz Gacon, the world number 86, won the first two points but that was as close as she came to victory as Li bagged the opening 10 games.
Foretz Gacon pulled a break back but the revival was short-lived with Li setting up a meeting against either Lauren Davis or her fellow American Christina Mchale.
Czech fourth seed Petra Kvitova strolled into the French Open third round with a comprehensive 6-1 6-3 win over Pole Urszula Radwanska on Thursday.
Kvitova, who had only dropped three games in her opening round, was never threatened by the world number 79, hitting 30 winners in a one-sided match on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
The Wimbledon champion ended Radwanska’s misery after 70 minutes on her second match point when the Pole sent a backhand long.
Kvitova, heading towards a possible quarter-final clash with defending champion Li Na of China, will next face Frenchwoman Claire Feuerstein or Russian Nina Bratchikova.
Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the third round of the French Open by beating Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia 6-1, 6-4 Thursday.
The ninth-seeded Dane, who last year spent all but one week as the No. 1-ranked player, is still looking to win her first Grand Slam title.
At Roland Garros, Wozniacki has never been past the quarterfinals, losing at that stage in 2010.
