SRK never interfered in cricketing matters: Gambhir

by Jun 1, 2012

Newly-crowned IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders‘ captain Gautam Gambhir said she shares a very special relationship with team owner Shah Rukh Khan. “He never interfered in cricketing matters and that is what makes him such a special person,” Gambhir told CNN-IBN in an interview.

Excerpts:

On being called ‘a good captain’

“I don’t deserve any bit of it. A captain is only as good as his team.”

“The one thing we changed this year was that we appreciated small contributions. Big contributions can give you headlines, but small contributions win you games.”

On working with SRK

“He has been an inspiration. I have a very special relationship with him.”

On the People of Kolkata

“The kind of love and support they have shown has been tremendous. They deserved to win the IPL and we delivered.”

On Sunil Narine

“Honestly speaking, despite playing him in the nets over the last two months, I am still not able to pick him. Narine has more variety and is more accurate than Mendis.”

On Test cricket

“I am strong believer that if you do well in Test cricket other two forms can take care of itself. Test cricket is of top most priority for me at this moment.”
