Although in the sting operation carried out by India TV there is no evidence of fixing in the IPL, BCCI president N Srinivasan seemed to be on the back foot. The BCCI chief was certainly short on words while trying to answer (or evade) some tough questions asked by CNN-IBN‘s Rajdeep Sardesai.
When Sardesai asked that by creating opaque rules isn’t BCCI encouraging corruption, Srinivasan said: “That is not for me alone to discuss. All matters are discussed at the governing council.”
When Sardesai asked his view on the alleged under-the-table deals by the franchise with players, Srinivasan said, “I am sure the governing council will look at it.”
Funnily, almost all of Srinivasan’s answers mentioned the words ‘governing council’. Really, could the BCCI chief say nothing concrete on the issue.
When Sardesai finally asked, “You are passing the buck to the governing council, you are the President, give me a straight answer. Should not the franchise be acted against rather than the players?” Srinivasan said (predictably), “An inquiry will be made, after that the governing council will assess.”
