Deccan 150-5 after 20 overs
Christian 28, Jhunjhunwala 1
After Reddy’s fall, it was impossible to win unless Hilfenhaus bowled a no-ball which went for a boundary. That did not happen. In fact, the Aussie did very well, giving away only two runs in the last two balls to give his side a comfortable 10-run victory.
WICKET! Deccan 148-5 after 19.4 overs
Ashish Reddy c Vijay b Hilfenhaus 3 (3b, 0×4, 0×6)
DC needed 13 runs in three deliveries and Reddy’s attempt at a six fails…he is caught at deep extra-cover. Surely CSK will win it now?
WICKET! Deccan 135-4 after 18.3 overs
Cameron White run out 77 (53b, 9×4, 2×6)
White steers one towards the covers and the batsmen opt for a quick double, with White falling just short of the crease when Dhoni pounced on the ball and took off the bails.
Deccan 132-3 after 18 overs
White 76, Christian 16
The 18th over could be the defining over for CSK and Deccan. Cameron White has just started plundering Jadeja all over the park. He smashes him for a couple of sixes— one over long-off and the other over long-on before lifting four more runs towards fine-leg. They now require 29 runs from 12 deliveries.
Deccan 102-3 after 15 overs
White 51, Christian 11
Christian has come and whipped a six immediately. He does not want to waste any time with DC requiring 59 from 30 i.e. almost two runs a ball and 12 per over. White has brought up his fifty with seven fours.
WICKET! Deccan 85-3 after 12 overs
Kumar Sangakkara c & b Raina 1 (5b, 0×4, 0×6)
Sangakkara fails to give Deccan’s run chase any lift. In fact, he has hit one straight towards the bowler and Raina, who was a few feet away has flown towards the ball to complete a stunning one-handed catch. Quality fielding.
WICKET! Deccan 77-2 after 10.4 overs
Shikhar Dhawan run out 36 (29b, 3×4, 0×6)
White is smacking the fours on one end, but the Chargers need more to stage a comfortable chase. White strikes the ball down the ground and it nips Bravo’s ankle before hitting the stumps at the bowler’s end. Dhawan, unlucky as it stands, is miles away.
Deccan 58-1 after 8 overs
Dhawan 31, White 26
Ashwin and White are waging a war among themselves. It’s the battle of patience as Ashwin’s offies are annoyingly tight for White. He does however get a couple of boundaries from him, but the pressure is increasing with every dot ball Ashwin forces out of him.
Deccan 40-1 after 5 overs
Dhawan 26, White 13
Dhawan and White take on Bravo’s bowling and get 15 runs off it in the 5th over. Two boundaries from White—one running away to fine-leg and the other past mid-on follow one from Dhawan.
WICKET! Deccan 9-1 after 1.4 overs
Parthiv Patel b Morkel 1 (5b, 0×4, 0×6)
Parthiv Patel wastes his wicket again. He goes down the track in haste and edges the ball onto his own stumps.
Deccan come out to bat
Chennai 160-6 after 20 overs
Bravo 12, Badrinath 1
Entertaining last over with Dhoni’s wicket, a comic dropped catch where the keeper and the fielder couldn’t decide who should collect and a huge six from Bravo. CSK have done fair enough to reach this total, but they could have scored lots more.
WICKET! Chennai 147-6 after 19.1 overs
MS Dhoni b Christian 34 (28b, 2×4, 0×6)
Dhoni twists and slogs but the ball has taken his middle stump off before he could even turn.
WICKET! Chennai 142-5 after 18.4 overs
Ravindra Jadeja c Sangakkara b Ashish Reddy 4 (9b, 0×4, 0×6)
Jadeja trapped by the slower delivery. He tries to slog one over the on-side but he only gets an edge to the keeper.
Chennai 139-4 after 18 overs
Dhoni 26, Jadeja 4
No boundaries since the last three overs for CSK. Going by the batsmen at the crease, it is a bit surprising. Maybe some fireworks should be expected in the last two overs?
WICKET! Chennai 124-4 after 15 overs
Albie Morkel b Jhunjhunwala 13 (9b, 1×4, 0×6)
Morkel tries to heave one over the mid-wicket area and completely misses a skidding delivery. Jhunjhunwala is ecstatic to have struck the stumps.
WICKET! Chennai 109-3 after 13.1 overs
Faf du Plessis c Dhawan b Pratap Singh 42 (35b, 2×4, 1×6)
Du Plessis got a free-hit in the 13th over and gets caught in the deep. Minutes later, he tries again and this time he is caught…and the ball was legitimate. It was a tired looking shot to be true.
Chennai 101-2 after 12 overs
Du Plessis 37, Dhoni 13
Dhoni is off to a good start, playing a fine shot through the covers for four and intelligently running between the wickets with Faf on the other end. The boundaries have dried up a bit but the running has been fantastic. 100 runs comes up at a good time for them. If you go by the calculation that has usually got scores right, CSK could be looking at 200.
WICKET! Chennai 79-2 after 9.4 overs
Suresh Raina c Jhunjhunwala b Mishra 32 (24b, 1×4, 2×6)
Raina seemed to be in a hurry for no reason and that finally paves the way for his wicket. He comes down on his knees to swat one over the on side, only to be caught in the deep. It is, however, a fair innings from the lefty.
Chennai 69-1 after 7 overs
Raina 25, Du Plessis 28
Du Plessi just manages to clear Dale Steyn at long-on for six. The tall bowler got his hands to it but the elevation was enough. These two batsmen looking pretty solid as of now.
Chennai 47-1 after 5 overs
Raina 21, Du Plessis 11
Raina has taken off like Agni-V. The 5th over goes for 3-4-1-1-6-6, with Raina dropped by Mishra before slamming two maximums out of the park. Du Plessis has also scored a four but all eyes are on Raina right now.
WICKET! Chennai 15-1 after 2.2 overs
Murali Vijay c Mishra b Pratap Singh 14 (11b, 2×4, 0×6)
Just after steering one beautifully past the covers for four, Vijay slashes at a delivery and it ends up comfortably in the hands of third-man. He was looking very positive.
Chennai 11-0 after 2 overs
Vijay 10, Du Plessis 1
Only the one boundary for CSK in the first couple of overs— Vijay driving through the covers. Steyn’s over was as usual impressive, with the bowler not giving away any extra room for either batsmen to drive at.
