IPL spot-fixing: Probe all matches in IPL 6, says ex-BCCI chief

Shashank Manohar, the former president of the BCCI, has said that the BCCI is not equipped to investigate spot-fixing and should rely on the police to punish players as suspensions do not work. “BCCI has no machinery to investigate”, Manohar told Business Standard. “Therefore, I reiterate that BCCI should have filed a complaint to the police on its own. Suspension of players will not work. If the player is put behind bars even for a day, it will create a fear psychosis and become a deterrent to others.” [caption id=“attachment_811519” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Former BCCI president Shashank Manohar. AFP[/caption] Manohar also said he “strongly feels” that every match in the 2013 IPL should be investigated rather than limiting the investigation to the three Rajasthan Royals players. The Mumbai Police are currently investigating whether Gurunath Meiyappan, the team principal of the Chennai Super Kings, and board president N Srinivasan’s son-in-law, has been placing bets on matches. According to Manohar, the the board does have rules that forbid players, administrators and officials from betting and can punish those found guilty of doing so. Manohar was the president of the BCCI from October 2008 to September 2011. He was president when Lalit Modi was removed as IPL chairman and subjected to a disciplinary commmittee inquiry.
