Delhi 145-4 after 18.2 overs
Ojha 5, Venugopal 21
Delhi took their time but they’ve finally won it as Ojha tries to play it off his pads and the ball takes an edge straight to the ropes. This means Kings XI Punjab‘s stint in this IPL is over and Delhi continue to dominate with a fine performance.
WICKET! Delhi 135-4 after 16.5 overs
Mahela Jayawardene c Hussey b Azhar Mahmood 8 (10b, 1×4, 0×6)
Not exactly what you are looking from when a captain comes in to bat with just seven runs needed to win. He does score a boundary which edges Delhi closer to a win, but then decides to pull one and gets the top edge. The fielder is grateful to take it.
WICKET! Delhi 117-3 after 14.2 overs
Irfan Pathan c Azhar Mahmood b Harris 5 (7b, 1×4, 0×6)
Pathan edges one straight to the slips. Its a sharp catch from Mahmood but one must wonder how teams in comfortable positions end up making things so hard for themselves. Delhi should surely see this one off without much ado, unless a collapse is coming.
WICKET! Delhi 109-2 after 12.5 overs
David Warner c Mandeep Singh b Harris 79 (44b, 10×4, 4×6)
That’s the end of a brilliant innings from Warner. He has spanked the bowlers all over the ground without really slogging at the deliveries. His only mistake came as he lashed the ball straight to point. But in any case, he seems to have done enough for a win for Delhi.
Delhi 106-1 after 12 overs
Warner 78, Venugopal 3
Fine batting from Warner as he continues to attack. He has slapped four fours in the last couple of overs and he deserves a century after an innings which should surely be considered as a match-winning one for Delhi.
WICKET! Delhi 82-1 after 9 overs
Unmukt Chand c Gilchrist b Azhar Mahmood 18 (24b, 0×4, 2×6)
Chand tries to get in touch with Warner runs wise, but his attempt at a big shot takes an awkward bottom edge and flies straight to the keeper.
Delhi 67-0 after 7 overs
Chand 15, Warner 47
Chand remains at 15 runs, but the score has moved on to 67 runs since Warner has decided to go on a hitting spree which has resulted in three sixes and two fours. Amazing stuff from the left hander because his shots are of all types and in all parts of the field, which make it very hard to bowl to him.
Delhi 34-0 after 5 overs
Chand 15, Warner 19
Chand has joined the party now, heaving a couple of huge sixes to get going. Warner on the other end continues his onslaught with a well timed four through extra-cover. If these two can stick it on for a bit longer, then Delhi won’t have any trouble in winning.
Delhi 14-0 after 2 overs
Chand 1, Warner 13
Great start for Delhi as Warner seems to be on fire, smacking a six and a four in the first couple of overs. It’s too early to say, but somehow Delhi’s batting line-up looks too strong for Kings XI.
Delhi come out to bat and are chasing a target of 142 runs.
Kings XI 141-8 after 20 overs
Harris 15, Kumar 3
Harris strikes a four and a six in the last over to take his side to a good score of 141 runs. Especially if you consider the way they started, Punjab’s middle order has done very well to make a match out of this.
WICKETS! Kings XI 126-8 after 19 overs
Gurkeerat Singh b Morkel 26 (11b, 4×4, 1×6)
Piyush Chawla b Morkel 1 (2b, 0×4, 0×6)
Both batsmen feeling the full wrath of Morkel. Gurkeerat cannot handle a yorker which sends his leg stump flying, before Chawla tried to slog the bowler, missed and saw his middle stump dead.
WICKET! Kings XI 122-6 after 18.1 overs
Azhar Mahmood c Chand b Morkel 36 (38b 4×4 1×6)
Mahmood contributes a fine 36 runs but has lost his wicket just when he started going for the big shots. His attempt at a cut shot ends up as a clip straight to point. Sharp catch from the fielder to dismiss the dangerous all-rounder.
Kings XI 114-5 after 17 overs
Mahmood 29, Gurkeerat 25
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Kings XI are putting almost every ball to the fence and a lot of credit must go to young Gurkeerat for playing some brilliant shots all over the park. He has smashed four fours and a six since his arrival, scoring at a strike rate of 260.00. Stunning!
WICKET! Kings XI 77-5 after 14.1 overs
Siddharth Chitnis c Pathan b Russell 38 (32b, 5×4, 1×6)
Chitnis played a fantastic innings at a time when his team needed it the most. He held up pretty well and accelerated to give them some hope of posting a respectable score. But he pulls one and gets a top edge, only to see Pathan grab that one in stylish fashion.
Kings XI 63-4 after 12 overs
Mahmood 14, Chitnis 28
Chitnis continues with some masterful strokeplay, taking Punjab past the 60-run mark. The run rate still remains a lowly 5.70, but in the last five overs, it has gone to 8.20 runs an over.
Kings XI 50-4 after 10 overs
Mahmood 8, Chitnis 22
Some cheers from the crows as three fours from Chitnis in one over have lifted Punjab to their 50-run mark. Mahmood is calm on the other end but if these batsmen can hold fort till about 15 overs, then he will surely explode.
Kings XI 35-4 after 8 overs
Mahmood 7, Chitnis 8
This is the first update in this match which doesn’t say ‘WICKET!’. That’s because Mahmood and Chitnis have somehow held up. Not only that, but both of them have managed to slap a boundary each to take the score to 35 runs.
WICKET! Kings XI 20-4 after 5.5 overs
David Hussey c Pathan b Yadav 3 (6b, 0×4, 0×6)
Kings XI’s situation has gone from bad to worse. If there was one man who could have lifted them from this miserable score, it was Hussey, but even he is back in the hut after scooping one straight to mid-on.
WICKET! Kings XI 18-3 after 4.3 overs
Paul Valthaty c Pathan b Morkel 2 (10b, 0×4, 0×6)
The home side are stuttering in their attempts to fight back from the early wicket. Vathaty tries to pick a spot over third-man, but his aim is bad and he finds the fielder in the region.
WICKET! Kings XI 16-2 after 3.3 overs
Adam Gilchrist c Aaron b Yadav 9 (12b, 2×4, 0×6)
Yadav strikes again! And this time he bags Gilchrist’s wicket. The extra pace undoing the captain’s pull shot and it goes to Aaron who came running in at mid-on to take a smart catch.
WICKET! Kings XI 5-1 after 1.1 overs
Mandeep Singh c Ojha b Yadav 0 (1b, 0×4, 0×6)
The first ball of the innings went for five wides, but the first ball of the second over has resulted in a wicket. Umesh Yadav gets lots of movement away from the right hander and Mandeep has nicked it straight to the keeper.
