Absurdist? Twitter reacts to the KKR-Mamata-SRK show

by May 29, 2012

A grand celebration to mark the Kolkata Knight Riders first ever IPL win soon turned into a farcical event complete with screaming Chief Ministers, crowd chaos and team owner Shahrukh Khan climbing the fences of the Eden Gardens ground to acknowledge the cheers of the assembled throng of people.

While KKR team captain Gautam Gambhir presented the IPL trophy to Mamata Banerjee, the players were given a gold chain with the inscription “Bengal Loves You” by Mamata Didi. Cue a victory parade and a packed to capacity crowd at the Eden Gardens who could only be controlled by Mamata herself, armed with a mic.

She moved officials, told people to stand up, some to sit down and chased others away entirely.

And of course there was the pre-requisite Shahrukh Khan song medley with some customized changes. Instead of Chak de India the crowds were treated to a rendition of Chak de Kolkata. Then everyone danced – players, team owners and politicians alike. Even Mamata di deigned to clap her hands and move to the music with a big smile on her face.

At the end ofcourse, everything turned to chaos with police having to lathicharge the crowds of people as they tried to exit the stadium once it was all over.

The rest of the nation watched with something between amazement and horror, and a lot of that sentiment was reflected on Twitter.

Take a look at what people on Twitter had to say about KKR’s grand victory parade:
