Russell into the attack for the penultimate over, and Kohli hammers the first ball towards cow-corner! RCB just one hit away from a win now! Two off the next, with an extra run thanks to a misfield! Russell has to leave the ground as he appears to have sustained a serious injury — probably a hamstring or a calf. Chawla to bowl the remaining deliveries, and AB de Villiers gets the honour of hitting the winning boundary, sending the ball down towards long-leg! And Royal Challengers Bangalore keep their IPL 2016 campaign alive by with a nine-wicket thrashing of Kolkata Knight Riders! Partnership between Kohli and de Villiers unbroken at 115 at the end of the innings!

  • 23:16 (IST)

Given their terrific run of form in the ongoing tournament, won't come as a surprise!

  • 23:15 (IST)

  • 23:13 (IST)

    After 18 overs,Bangalore 173/1 ( Virat Kohli (C) 66 , AB de Villiers 55)

The chase appears a cakewalk by this stage, and a few more hits from Kohli and ABD should seal the deal for RCB! Three singles off Narine in the 16th over, before ABD smashes the final ball towards deep square-leg  for his third six of the day! The South African is now in contention for completing his half-century! Two fours conceded by Shakib in his final over of the day, with 13 coming off the 17th. Meanwhile, Kohli starts off with a boundary at the start of the 18th! The pair could end the game anytime soon! 16 runs hammered in the 18th over, including two fours and a front-foot no-ball! Kohli comes down the ground, and hammers the full delivery along off straight down the ground! Almost sent the ball into the clouds! 13 runs off the 14th over, with 24 off the last two. Fifty for Virat Kohli, and the RCB skipper continues his roaring form, getting yet another fifty in what is turning out be his tournament by a sizeable margin! Gets to the milestone in 37 balls, and boy does he look set for another match-winning knock today! De Villiers ends the over with a six over midwicket! RCB need 49 off 30 with nine wickets in hand.

  • 22:49 (IST)

  • 22:48 (IST)

    After 12 overs,Bangalore 101/1 ( Virat Kohli (C) 38 , AB de Villiers 13)

Kohli completes 700 runs in the ongoing tournament in the 10th over, hammering the fifth ball towards deep point to get his third boundary of the innings. And suddenly things seem quiet at the centre, despite the presence of Kohli and ABD. Such was the impact of Gayle's innings! RCB nine runs away from 100 at the halfway mark in their innings. DROPPED! Skipper Gambhir drops his RCB counterpart Kohli at backward point after the latter holes out straight at him with an attempted cut off Shakib! Boy will that prove to be costly later in the match! As the saying goes these days, one SIMPLY DOES NOT DROP Kohli! 100 up for RCB in the 12th over, with five coming off it. RCB 83 to win from 48 balls

  • 22:46 (IST)

  • 22:46 (IST)

  • 22:46 (IST)

    After 9 overs,Bangalore 82/1 ( Virat Kohli (C) 22 , AB de Villiers 10)

Great over by Rajpoot going by the current run-rate, conceding just two off his first over of the day. Gayle moves to 49 with a six towards deep extra-cover in the first ball of the following over, before his quickfire innings comes to an end after he gets trapped lbw by a Narine delivery that straightens along the leg stump! Gayle was looking terrific tonight, and misses out on a well-deserved fifty by just one run. However, one big-hitter's departure simply brings another to the crease, and gets his first boundary in the third ball of the following over, cutting it away behind point, before sending the penultimate ball of the over down the ground! Meanwhile, spanking progress for RCB at the moment! The visitors need another 102 to win from 66 balls

  • 22:34 (IST)

Great over by Rajpoot going by the current run-rate, conceding just two off his first over of the day. Gayle moves to 49 with a six towards deep extra-cover in the first ball of the following over, before his quickfire innings comes to an end after he gets trapped lbw by a Narine delivery that straightens along the leg stump! Meanwhile, spanking progress for RCB at the moment! The visitors need another 102 to win from 66 balls

  • 22:28 (IST)

OUT! And it's Narine who gets rid of fellow West Indian Chris Gayle by trapping him lbw. Superb innings by the latter, as he departs for a 31-ball 49, smashing five fours and four sixes in a staggering display, and appeared headed for a ton! KKR lose their first wicket with 71 on board!

  • 22:22 (IST)

    After 6 overs,Bangalore 63/0 ( Chris Gayle 42 , Virat Kohli (C) 20)

Gayle is in massacre mode right now, uppercutting the fourth ball of the fourth over towards third man for a one-bounce four! Kohli comes down the track, and hammers the final ball of the over towards the wide long-off boundary to get his first six of the innings! Spin introduced in the fifth over, with Narine being handed the ball. Gayle sweeps the third ball pitched along leg towards back of square! The burly Jamaican appears unstoppable right now as he hammers the very next ball towards extra-cover to bring up the fifty for RCB! Chawla to bowl the final over of the powerplay. Meanwhile, chants of 'RCB!RCB' at KKR's home venue! Good over by Chawla, as he gets the ball to turn a bit more than expected. However, Gayle finishes the over with his third six of the day, entering the 40s with a massive hit over wide long-on!

Bangalore need 121 off 84 balls

  • 22:09 (IST)

    After 3 overs,Bangalore 32/0 ( Chris Gayle 21 , Virat Kohli (C) 10)

Kohli and Gayle walk out to bat, with Russell to bowl the first over. Superb yorker by the West Indian all-rounder in the second ball of the over. Exquisite pull by Kohli in the fourth ball in his typical style, getting the first boundary of the innings. Seven off the first over. Morkel into the second over, and he starts off with some short stuff to Gayle, who is still struggling to adjust. FOUR! Flicked towards cow-corner by Gayle in the fourth ball! Four more in the next ball, as Gayle gives the short stuff the treatment that it deserves. Lovely flick by Kohli in the second ball of the next over by Jordan, and it seems as if there are more RCB supporters at the Eden Gardens than that of KKR. SIX! Gayle muscles the penultimate ball of the  third over straight down the ground! Finishes the over off with a six as well, as Gayle ends Russell's 2nd over on an expensive note, with 17 coming off it!

Bangalore race to 32/0 after 3; need 152 to win from 102 balls!

  • 21:59 (IST)

  • 21:43 (IST)

    After 20 overs,Kolkata 183/5 ( Andre Russell 39 , Shakib Al Hasan 18)

Jordan returns to the attack for the penultimate over, and fires a perfect yorker that floors Shakib in the first delivery. Does the same to Russell as well in the fifth ball of the over. Russell however, ends the over with a six over long-off, ruining an otherwise good over as 10 comes off it.

Watson comes in for the final over, and gets hammered for a boundary towards deep point, with Russell hammering a full-toss from Watson. Shakib misses a delivery pitched outside off, gets a run nevertheless, but the delivery is called a wide — apparently an unfair call. Russell gets a double in the last ball, with 12 coming off the final over. KKR finish on 183/5

  • 21:31 (IST)

    After 18 overs,Kolkata 161/5 ( Andre Russell 24 , Shakib Al Hasan 14)

KKR are beginning to lose wickets in a heap, with Suryakumar holing out to Abdulla near wide long-on in the first ball of the 16th over to depart for 5. Big over nevertheless, with Russell swatting a short one from Aravind towards midwicket, before Shakib opens his account by guiding the fifth ball towards backward point. 13 off the 16th over, a much-needed one for them at this stage. Chahal comes in for his final over in the 17th, and gets driven towards extra-cover by Russell in the third ball of the over. Eight conceded by Chahal in his final over, as he finishes with figures of 1 for 38.

Watson in for the 18th. SIX! Massive hit by Shakib over midwicket for an 88m hit! Six more! Russell flicks the fourth ball over backward square-leg in a glamorous hit! DROPPED! Aravind lets go of a chance at deep third man after Shakib sends the ball towards the region with an outside edge! Could prove costly for RCB! 16 runs off the 18th over, and KKR seem headed for a total in excess of 180.

  • 21:18 (IST)

    After 15 overs,Kolkata 124/4 ( Andre Russell 1 , Suryakumar Yadav 5)

Abdulla ends his quota by conceding seven off his final over, finishing with figures of 1/22 in a decent display. Pandey steers the first ball of the following over, bowled by Arvind, towards backward point, before bringing up his fifty with a single in the second ball. OUT! Pandey caught by AB de Villiers at long-on after getting cramped for room by a full delivery between middle and leg from Arvind. Four leg-byes in the fifth over, with keeper Rahul failing to stop the ball after diving to his left. 11 off the over, with Andre Russell joining Pathan at the centre! Pathan returns to the dug-out after getting stumped by Chahal, not even waiting for the third umpire's decision.

  • 21:16 (IST)

OUT! Fine running catch by Abdulla near wide long-off! Suryakumar attempts to loft the short delivery from Arvind along off, but does not get enough power to the shot! Abdulla calls out for the catch while running in the opposite direction! Yadav departs for 5, as KKR lose their fifth wicket with 125 on board! The momentum's firmly with RCB right now!

  • 21:13 (IST)

Yusuf may have had a disappointing innings today, but he ended up achieving a milestone in his short stay.

  • 21:10 (IST)

OUT! And KKR are losing quick wickets at this stage, with Pathan getting stumped for 6 off the bowling of Chahal barely a couple of deliveries after the dismissal of Pandey. Pathan is convinced of his dismissal, and starts walking back to the dug-out even before the umpire can head upstairs for the third umpire's decision. KKR 118/4 after 14.1 overs

  • 21:05 (IST)

OUT! Pandey dismissed barely a delivery after getting to his half-century! Cramped for room with a full delivery pitched along middle and leg, and he holes out a simple catch for AB de Villiers at long-on! Departs for 50 off 35, as KKR lose their third wicket with 113 on board in the 14th over!

  • 21:04 (IST)

Fifty for Pandey, and he gets to the milestone in 34 deliveries! Quality knock by the KKR No 3 so far, having hit five fours and two sixes so far, and he will look to get a partnership going at this stage with Yusuf Pathan.

  • 20:58 (IST)

    After 12 overs,Kolkata 100/2 ( Manish Pandey 43 , Yusuf Pathan 1)

Milestone time for Gambhir in the 10th over, as he brings up his fifty in 32 balls with a single. This is his 31st IPL half-century, the most by any player in the history of the league. Also the sixth time he crosses the 50-run mark in the ongoing tournament, as he continues his blazing form with the bat! Watson back in the 12th over, replacing Jordan, and gets whacked for a six in the third delivery towards deep square-leg off a pull by Manish. Meanwhile, 100 comes up for KKR in the over.

  • 20:58 (IST)

  • 20:50 (IST)

OUT! And Gambhir departs shortly after getting to his fifty, and boy is he looking gambhir at the moment! Another mix-up with Pandey, and this time both batsmen are stranded at the striker's end, with Gambhir only slightly ahead of Pandey. Departs for 51 off 34, as KKR lose their second wicket with 90 on board in the 11th over.

  • 20:46 (IST)

Fifty for Gautam Gambhir! The KKR captain gets to his milestone in 32 deliveries! Sixth 50-plus score this season as the southpaw continues his terrific run of form! Now for him to guide his side to a big total tonight! This is also his 31st IPL fifty, the most by any player in the tournament's history.

  • 20:43 (IST)

    After 9 overs,Kolkata 82/1 ( Gautam Gambhir (C) 46 , Manish Pandey 32)

SIX! First big hit of the innings comes right after the end of the powerplay, with Pandey executing against the slog to send the ball towards midwicket! Gambhir slices the ball over extra-cover off the fifth ball, before guiding the final delivery towards backward point. Another big over for KKR, with 16 coming off it. Fifty partnership up between Gambhir and Pandey. Run-out scare in the final ball of the eighth over, with a complete mis-communication between Gambhir and Pandey. The latter survives a close call at the non-striker's end. Meanwhile, the duo are progressing spectacularly at the moment, and look set for a big total tonight.

  • 20:39 (IST)

  • 20:28 (IST)

    After 6 overs,Kolkata 51/1 ( Gautam Gambhir (C) 30 , Manish Pandey 19)

Gambhir takes some off the pressure off his shoulder with a pull towards midwicket off Aravind that results in his third boundary. Another pull towards the same region in the same over, only it is Pandey this time as he gets his 2nd boundary. The right-handed batsman ends the over on an expensive note with a four towards wide long-on. 15 off Aravind's 2nd. Cheeky sweep by Gambhir off a Abdulla delivery pitched outside leg, with nine coming off the fifth. Watson is introduced into the attack for the final over of powerplay, and Gambhir pulls the third ball of the over towards deep square-leg. Expensive end to the powerplay, with Pandey guiding the last ball of the over towards backward point, which also brings up the 50 for KKR.

Spin introduced early in the innings, with Iqbal Abdulla — who comes in place of Varun Aaron — and he delivers for his skipper by collecting a return catch off Uthappa for KKR to lose their first wicket with 14 on board. PREVIEW: Brimming with confidence after a massive 144-run victory, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will run into an in-form Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side in an Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter in Kolkata on Monday.

RCB need to win all their three remaining games to make it to the last four while KKR already have a foot into the play-offs and need just one victory from their remaining three outings.

Both teams come into the contest at the back of morale boosting victories.

RCB registered a crushing 144-run victory over Gujarat Lions at their home turf on Saturday. Propelled by twin centuries from captain Virat Kohli (109) and South African AB de Villiers (129), they posted a gigantic 248 for three in 20 overs. RCB then bundled Gujarat out for a paltry 104.

Later, on the same day in a game in Kolkata, KKR tamed Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) by eight wickets at the Eden Gardens.

Electing to bat, Pune managed to get to 103 for six in 17.4 overs when rain halted the tie. KKR were set a revised target of 66 runs to win from nine overs when play resumed again. And even though they lost Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir in the first over itself, Yusuf Pathan (37) and Manish Pandey (15) ensured that they cruised past the target without any further setback.

All eyes will be on the KKR bowling and how they fare against the likes of Kohli and de Villiers. The track is likely to be a turner again but the pair has been getting runs on every surface.

Chris Gayle — a former KKR player — loves the Eden track. The last time the burly Jamaican was here in 2015 for RCB, he had smashed a 56-ball 96. The left-hander has been struggling in the current tournament, scoring just 19 runs in five games. However, he can take heart from his previous performances at the Eden Gardens.

RCB bowling has been inconsistent, though pacer Chris Jordan (4/11) and Yuzvendra Chahal (3/19) delivered the goods in the previous game against Gujarat.

If they bowl loose on the day, the likes of Uthappa, Gambhir and Pathan — who have been in great form lately — will surely have no second thoughts about smashing them to the ropes.

When these two sides met last it was the Challengers’ bowling which let them down as Pathan hit a 29-ball 60.

It will be at the back of Kohli’s mind that his bowlers have struggled so far and he would ideally want to bat KKR out of the contest. But then again everyday is not a Sunday.

Squads:
