Interim BCCI chief Gavaskar says he's confident of successful IPL 2014

Interim Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sunil Gavaskar expressed his confidence that the Indian Premier League 2014 will be a successful one. Gavaskar took over after the Supreme Court ordered that N Srinivasan step down from his position as BCCI chief. The court also ordered that Shivlal Yadav take over as vice-president for the interim period. AFP[/caption] “I had a meeting with Mr. Ranjib Biswal – Chairman, IPL, and the Management Staff, in Dubai, earlier today. They briefed me on the various aspects related to the Pepsi IPL 2014, and updated me on the current status of this year’s season, which will commence on 16 April 2014 in the UAE,” Gavaskar said through a press release. “I am confident that the upcoming season of the Pepsi IPL 2014 will be a successful one,” he added. Questions have been raised over whether Gavaskar is the right man for the job, but his taking over has been welcomed by BCCI members. The court earlier barred all those associated with Srinivasan’s India Cements company, which owns IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, from functioning in the BCCI in any manner. They did, however, allow Chennai Super Kings as well as Rajasthan Royals, whose owners too are facing charges of betting, to take part in this year’s IPL.
