India vs South Africa stats: India's winning streak, Jadeja's milestones and Amla's failure

Mohali: Statistical highlights on day three of the first cricket Test between India and South Africa, here today. - South Africa’s defeat to India is their first Test loss in three days since the Kanpur Test in April 2008. India (325 & 64/2) had defeated South Africa (265 & 121) by eight wickets. - South Africa’s Mohali defeat is their second out of 19 away Tests played during the last five years. They have won seven and drawn ten during this period. Their only other defeat is by seven wickets to Pakistan at Abu Dhabi in October 2013. AFP[/caption] - South Africa have lost their first Test out of nine contested under Hashim Amla’s captaincy (won four and drawn four) - winning percent 44.44. - South Africa have lost six, won five and drawn two out of 13 contested vs India in India - win/loss ratio 0.833. Of the last five Tests vs India in India, they have lost three and won two. - For the first time, South Africa have lost two consecutive Tests vs India in India - by an innings and 57 runs at Kolkata in February 2010 and by 108 runs at Mohali in November 2015. - South African spinners have claimed 15 wickets at an average of 15.93 - the most by them in a Test match vs India. - Just once South African spinners had bagged 16 wickets (ave.18.25) in a Test match - in the Melbourne Test vs Australia in 1952-53. - The four opening partnerships in the Mohali Test summed up just 26 - the second lowest in a Test match in India. - the lowest of 25 has been recorded twice) - vs New Zealand at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai in 1964-65 and vs England at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in 1981-82. - For the first time in any Test match on Indian soil, none of the four opening partnerships reached double-digits. - Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, India have won their first Test in India and the third out of seven played (lost two and drawn two) - success percent 42.85. India had registered two victories in Sri Lanka this year under his leadership - by 278 runs at Colombo (PSS) and by 117 runs at Colombo (SSC). - India have won seven consecutive Tests on Indian soil - their second best winning sequence at home behind the ten in a row between December 1988 and November 1994. - The last four Tests played in India have been won by India within three days - vs Australia at Delhi in March 2013; vs West Indies at Kolkata and Mumbai in November 2013 and vs South Africa at Mohali. - India have won their second Test when they have been dismissed on 201 or less in both the innings - the first instance being against West Indies at Kingston in July 2009 (by 49 runs). - Ravindra Jadeja’s excellent bowling performance of 5 for 21 is his second best next only to the six for 138 vs South Africa at Durban in December 2013. His only other instance of five wickets in an innings in Tests is five for 58 vs Australia at Delhi in March 2013. He has justifiably received his second Man of the Match award in Tests. - Jadeja’s match figures of 8 for 76 are his best in a Test match, eclipsing the 7 for 98 vs Australia at Delhi in March 2013. - Jadeja has taken 13 Tests to complete his 50 wickets - the joint quickest Indian left-armer with Pragyan Ojha. He is the tenth Indian left-arm spinner to complete 50 wickets or more in Tests. - West Indian Alf Valentine had taken just eight Tests - the fastest by a spinner to his 50 Test wickets. - Imran Tahir (4/48) has registered his second best bowling performance in Tests next only to the 5 for 32 vs Pakistan at Dubai (DSC) in October 2013. - Imran’s match figures of 6 for 71 are his best in a Test match against India - his second best next only to the 8 for 130 vs Pakistan at Dubai (DSC) in October 2013. - Hashim Amla’s fourth duck vs India is his eighth in Tests. His four ducks vs India have been registered at Johannesburg, Mohali, Durban and Kanpur. - In his last six innings vs India, Amla is without a Test fifty. - For the ninth time, 19 wickets or more have been claimed by Indian spinners in a Test match. - India’s last seven wickets added 39 runs - the second fewest by them in a Test innings at home - the fewest being 38 against Australia at Chennai in 1959-60.
