Mohali: Statistical highlights of the first Test match between India and South Africa on Thursday at PCA Stadium, Mohali. # Twelve wickets have been lost on the first day of the present Test. The only instance of losing more than 12 wickets (13) on the first day of Mohali Test is in the India-New Zealand Test in October 1999 - 10 by India (83) and 3 by New Zealand (119/3). # Four times against South Africa since January 2000, India have been bowled out on the first day of a Test match - 76 at Ahmedabad, 2008; 158 at Bangalore, 2000; 201 at Mohali, 2015 and 225 at Mumbai, 2000. These two instances are his only ones of four-wicket hauls in first-class cricket. # Elgar’s excellent figures are the third best by a South African left-arm spinner vs India in India - the top two being 6 for 55 by Paul Adams at Kanpur in 1996-97 and 5 for 83 by Nicky Boje at Bangalore in March 2000. # Only Pakistan’s Danish Kaneria had better figures as an overseas spinner in a Test innings at Mohali - 6 for 150 in March 2005. # Murali Vijay (75) has registered his second fifty vs South Africa - his 12th in Tests. His highest score vs South Africa is 97 at Durban in December 2013. # Vijay is averaging 50.44 in first team innings as compared to his second innings average of 31.20. # For the first time in his career, Vijay has been dismissed lbw in four successive innings - vs Bangladesh at Fatullah in June 2015; both innings in the Colombo (PSS) Test and Mohali. # Cheteshwar Pujara is averaging 72.77 (1310 runs in 22 innings) at home as against his average of 33.53 away from home (939 runs in 29 innings). # Shikhar Dhawan’s first duck vs South Africa is his third in Tests - his first two being vs New Zealand and Australia. # Dhawan is averaging 15.20 vs South Africa in Tests - his tally being 76 in five innings with a highest of 29 at Durban in December 2013. # Ravindra Jadeja (38) has registered his highest score vs South Africa, surpassing the 8 at Durban in December 2013. # Jadeja has faced 92 balls during his aforesaid innings - the second longest by him. While scoring 31 against England at Nottingham in 2014, he had faced 98 balls. # Wriddhiman Saha has recorded his first golden duck in Tests - his third duck overall - two vs South Africa and one vs Australia. # Faf du Plessis’ first duck vs India is his second in Tests - the first being vs West Indies at Centurion in December 2014. # du Plessis is averaging below 50 for the first time in Tests (49.83).
