Visakhapatnam: India recovered from early jolts to reach 92/2 at lunch on the opening day of the second Test against England at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
Skipper Virat Kohli (35 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara (37 not out) resurrected the innings after England's leading pace duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad dealt early blows by sending back openers Murali Vijay (20) and KL Rahul (0) early in the session.
Electing to bat on a fresh Vizag track, India were reduced to 22/2 before Kohli and Pujara battled a few anxious moments to put an unbeaten 70-run stand for the third wicket.
Kohli had earlier won the toss, and elected to bat, with the hosts making two changes to their playing XI for this match. While Rahul came in place of Gautam Gambhir as Murali Vijay's opening partner, as was discussed in the lead-up to the match, off-spinner Jayant Yadav replaced Amit Mishra as the third spin option, and subsequently was handed his maiden Test cap by cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri before the toss.
England, on the other hand, made the solitary change of replacing Chris Woakes with veteran pacer James Anderson.
The series is currently level at 0-0 after the first Test at Rajkot ended in a draw, with Kohli putting up a defiant, unbeaten 49 in the second innings to save the hosts from losing their first Test on home soil in four years.
