India to file counter-appeal against Vikas decision

by Aug 4, 2012

The Indian contingent is going to file a counter-appeal against the review which overturned boxer Vikash Krishan’s victory over his US rival Errol Spence last evening.

Krishan had received a 13-11 verdict in his favor which was hotly disputed by the US boxing officials. AFP

The counter-appeal is likely to be lodged with the competition jury around 1 pm GMT (5.30PM IST) according to Bhupinder Singh, vice president of the Indian Boxing Federation and manager of the boxing squad for the Olympics.

Krishan had received a 13-11 verdict in his favor which was hotly disputed by the US boxing officials and late last evening, after seeing the videos of the bout in great detail, the competition jury decided that Spence had won the bout.

It is unlikely that a review of a review can be overturned, but Bhupinder Singh said that they could not take things lying down.
