by Jul 9, 2012

Yuvraj Singh, in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, said that he ignored the excessive coughing and vomiting during the 2011 World Cup tournament so that he could help India win the tournament.

“I ignored the symptoms because the World Cup was on and I just wanted to win it for India and for Sachin,” said Yuvraj Singh.

“The coughing, nausea and vomiting was getting really bad during the World Cup. There was times when I used to cough blood,” he added.

India won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final and Yuvraj Singh was named Man of the Tournament. He was diagnosed with lung cancer soon after.

“Getting diagnosed with cancer after the tournament felt like falling from a mountain on a tree. It was a shock for me and my family,” Singh said.

Yuvraj Singh came back from US in April, were he underwent a successful treatment for cancer.

Yuvraj wasn’t sure about when his comeback would happen, “I don’t know how much cricket I am going to play now. The main thing is I am going to help people who are diagnosed with cancer.”

“I am sure I want to come back on the field but my main motive in life is to motivate people to fight cancer and come out of it,” he added.
