Kohli the master chaser has done it again. Almost a repeat of the Asia Cup clash. India did well to restrict Pakistan to 118. Pakistan came out roaring defending the target as they removed Dhawan, Rohit and Riana inside the powerplay. It was at this time that Kohli and Yuvraj got together and steadied the ship, played sensible and then took on the bowling. Kohli was batting in an altogether different pitch as he played some glorious shots. In the end it proved to be an easy chase.

That's it! India win by 6 wickets!

India finish it off in style. Kohli cuts one through point for a four and then Dhoni smacks one over long on for a six to level the scores. A single to mid-wicket off the last ball wins it for India. Kohli is ecstatic and so is Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan in the crowd. Brilliant win for India. Kohli was batting in a different zone altogether. He remains not out on 55 off 37 balls with 7 fours and one six.

  • 23:19 (IST)

  • 23:19 (IST)

  • 23:18 (IST)

    After 15 overs,India 106/4 ( Virat Kohli 50 , MS Dhoni 5)

FIFTY for Kohli! Spectcular innings this. He creams one through extra cover for four to move onto 49 and then takes a single to long on to bring up his fifty. The Eden Gardens crowd gives him a standing ovation. He's been class apart. 7 runs off the over. 13 needed off 18 now.

  • 23:17 (IST)

    Afridi into his last over.

  • 23:16 (IST)

    After 14 overs, India 99/4 ( Virat Kohli 45 , MS Dhoni 3)

Kohli showing his class in that over. After four singles off first four balls. Amir beats Kohli's outside edge with a snorter. Kohli responds in brilliant fashion as he drives one through covers in a sublime fashion for four. 8 runs off the over. 20 needed off 24.

  • 23:14 (IST)

    After 13 overs,India 91/4 ( Virat Kohli 39 , MS Dhoni 1)

Kohli is playing on a different pitch altogether. He creams the first ball through extra cover for four. Three more singles in the over make it 7 runs off the over. Afridi did manage to beat Kohli's outside edge in that over. But Afridi needed to do it on regular basis. He has missed his lengths on numerous occasions tonight. 28 needed off 30.

  • 23:10 (IST)

Afridi back into the attack now.

  • 23:09 (IST)

  • 23:09 (IST)

  • 23:08 (IST)

    After 12 overs,India 84/4 ( Virat Kohli 33 , Dhoni 0)

Wahab went for runs but got the wicket of Yuvraj. Yuvraj smacked him over deep mid-wicket for a six. He then went for a slash but got an outside edge which fell short of the third man fielder. Wahab finally struck in the last ball to remove Yuvraj. 10 runs and a wicket off the over.

  • 23:06 (IST)

OUT! Wahab gets Yuvraj. But is it too little too late? Yuvraj Singh c Mohammad Sami b Wahab Riaz 24 (23b 1x4 1x6)

Yuvraj had hit a six off a thumping pull off earlier in the over. 5 balls later he again goes for it, but Wahab has taken the pace off the ball this time. It's a touch short outside off, Yuvraj looks to drag a pull but is done in by the change in pace and holes out to deep mid-wicket.

MS Dhoni strides out to the middle.

  • 23:03 (IST)

    Wahab Riaz back on.

  • 23:02 (IST)

  • 23:01 (IST)

    After 11 overs,India 74/3 ( Virat Kohli 31 , Yuvraj Singh 16)

This might be the over that might be the turning point. Kohli using the sweep to good effect. He gets down and slog sweeps one over square leg, it flies off the top edge for a six. He then gets down again with another slog sweep through mid-wicket for four. 14 runs off the over. A brilliant one for India.

  • 22:59 (IST)

  • 22:57 (IST)

  • 22:57 (IST)

    Shoaib Malik continues...

  • 22:56 (IST)

    After 10 overs,India 60/3 ( Virat Kohli 20 , Yuvraj Singh 15)

Pakistan losing the plot. The fielding is going down. Kohli pulls one over mid-wicket, Sharjeel puts in a lazy effort and it rolls back over the fence. Sensible cricket from then on makes it 6 runs off th eover. 59 needed off 48 balls.

  • 22:52 (IST)

Wahab Riaz into the attack now.

  • 22:50 (IST)

    After 9 overs,India 54/3 ( Virat Kohli 15 , Yuvraj Singh 14)

Afridi missed out on a trick by not having a slip. They are in need of wickets and need to be attacking more. Malik gets one to turn viciously and induces an outsid edge off Yuvraj but it flies through the vacant slip region. Yuvraj then cleverly took a couple of twos the latter because of very good running. It's all too easy for India batsmen right now. Pakistan need to create something special. 8 runs off the over.

  • 22:46 (IST)

Shoaib Malik into the attack now.

  • 22:45 (IST)

    After 8 overs,India 46/3 ( Virat Kohli 13 , Yuvraj Singh 9)

Easy for Yuvraj and Kohli in that over. Six singles off it. Sensible and efficient.  Afridi needs to up the ante. The Indian spinners were proving to be unplayable.

  • 22:43 (IST)

    Afridi continues......

  • 22:42 (IST)

    After 7 overs,India 40/3 ( Virat Kohli 10 , Yuvraj Singh 6)

A heart in the mouth moment for Yuvraj in that over. But overall, a good over for India. Kohli thumped one through point for a four and then Yuvraj gets into the act and cracks it through covers for the second four of the over. Yuvraj then goes for a pull but it gets big on him and he mistimes it short of the mid-wicket fielder. Kohlu then clips one to square leg for a couple. 11 runs off the over.

  • 22:36 (IST)

    Sami continues.....

  • 22:36 (IST)

COW Update: Disciplined bowling by Pakistan and the wicket of Rohit Sharma brought India's COW steadily down from 65% at the innings break to 53% in the 4th over. In the 5th over, Mohammad Sami's 2 wickets in 2 balls got rid of Dhawan and Raina, boosting Pakistan's COW to 50% and leaving India 3 wickets down.

  • 22:33 (IST)

  • 22:33 (IST)

    After 5 overs,India 23/3 ( Virat Kohli 1 , Yuvraj Singh 0)

Sami started off badly but then hit back hard. Dhawan smashed the first one through point for a boundary. Then overstepped but was lucky to get away with a dot ball on free hit. He then got two in two before Yuvraj defended the hat-trick ball and followed it with another defense. 5 runs off the over.

  • 22:31 (IST)

  • 22:30 (IST)

  • 22:29 (IST)

    OUT! 2 in 2 for Sami!  SK Raina b Mohammad Sami 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

Surprisingly, the extra pacer does the trick. It's a short of a good length delivery outside off, Raina stays back and look to defend, he has to hop a bit but it's too quick for him. He gets an inside edge and the leg stump goes cartwheeling. Sami is on a hat-trick now.

Yuvraj Singh is the new batsman.

  • 22:27 (IST)

    OUT! Dhawan's struggles end! S Dhawan b Mohammad Sami 6 (15b 1x4 0x6)

Good length delivery outside off, holds its line. Dhawan stays in his crease and looks to chop it to the off side. But he is playing too close to his body and gets an inside edge onto the stumps.

Suresh Raina strides out to the middle.

  • 22:24 (IST)

Mohammad Sami into the attack now.

  • 22:23 (IST)

    After 4 overs,India 18/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 2 , Virat Kohli 1)

Clever bowling from Irfan. He varied his pace well and used the slower one to good effect, he understoop that no point of ramping up extra pace, just take the pace off the ball. He also beat Kohli off a slower ball bouncer. 2 runs off the over.

  • 22:19 (IST)

    After 3 overs,India 16/1 ( Shikhar Dhawan 1 , Virat Kohli 0)

A wicket maiden from Amir. Just the two leg byes and the wicket of Rohit. Amir hurried up Dhawan with his pace. He is looking sharp. Irfan needs to maintain discipline here. Not much movement for the pacers.

  • 22:17 (IST)

OUT! Amir gets Rohit again! RG Sharma c Shoaib Malik b Mohammad Amir 10 (11b 2x4 0x6)

It's a length delivery outside off, Rohit stays in his crease and goes for a loft but ends up top edging it high in the air, Malik at extra cover settles under it and pouches a very good catch under swirling ball. He had to make the call with three fielders converging.

Virat Kohli strides out to the middle.

  • 22:14 (IST)

    After 2 overs,India 14/0 ( Rohit Sharma 10 , Shikhar Dhawan 1)

The pace on the ball is not helping Pakistan. Rohit cracks a couple of fours in that over. Irfan was too shortin that over and Rohit punished him. He at first slashed it over point for four and then pulled one over square leg. Rohit might have had another four in that over as he cut one hard but Shehzad at point did well to make the stop. 10 runs off the over. A good one for India.

  • 22:08 (IST)

Mohammad Irfan to bowl from the other end.

  • 22:07 (IST)

    After 1 overs, India 4/0 ( Rohit Sharma 1 , Shikhar Dhawan 1)

Just like the Asia Cup match, Amir started off with a brilliant first ball, but this time it was an outswinger and Rohit missed it. Amir was, however, inconsistent with his lines from then on as he sprayed a couple down the leg side. But ended well with an outswinger to Dhawan who played and missed. Four runs off the first over.

PreviewIndia and Pakistan will grind to a halt Saturday as hundreds of millions of cricket fans gather to watch the World Twenty20 match between the two arch-rival nations in Kolkata.

The cricket-mad neighbours, who have gone to war three times since independence, share one of the world's fiercest sporting rivalries and their rare showdowns on the pitch can bring both to a standstill.

Tensions have prevented the two sides from playing each other in Tests for more than a decade, and the match is only happening because the T20 is an International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament.

Television stations ran wall-to-wall pre-match coverage, with India's NDTV proclaiming the game "do or die for India", while heavy rain in the eastern city of Kolkata early in the morning caused jitters.

"There's tension in the air and prayers in the heart," the Times of Indianewspaper stated.

Thousands of security personnel deployed outside Kolkata's Eden Gardens ground testified to the enormity of the encounter.

Policemen battled to keep fans from sneaking into the iconic stadium in order to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars during practice sessions.

"It's hard to control the crowd at times. They are all eager to get in and watch some action. Sometimes we even have to use some force," police constable Sudhir Ray told AFP.

Fans said they were nervous about predicting the outcome of the match.

"You never know in an India-Pakistan game. We will always want India to win but Pakistan are looking dangerous," said Mannu, a tea vendor outside the stadium.

Newspapers have fretted that the evening match coincides with Earth Hour -- a climate change movement that sees millions turn off non-essential lights and appliances worldwide.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan told his 19.9 million Twitter followers to watch the match with friends to save energy.

"Support #EarthHour2016, watch #IndVSPak with friends on one screen, join campaign #TogethervsClimateChange" he tweeted.

Pakistan gears up

In Pakistan, fans said the match was a chance to take revenge for their side's recent defeat in the Asia Cup in Bangladesh, where they lost to India and the hosts.

Only about 120 Pakistan fans are expected to be part of the 66,000-strong crowd, local media said, after the venue switch from Dharamsala to Kolkata disrupted travel plans, with some denied visas at the last minute.

But that did not stop the atmosphere from amping up at home.

"We hope to have a turnout of a couple of thousand spectators at our big screen," said Faisal Baig of the Port Grand complex in Karachi, Pakistan's bustling economic hub of 20 million people.

"It feels wonderful to see people from different ethnic and political backgrounds become one nation and it only happens when Pakistan plays India," he added.

A sign outside the city's Bambino cinema declared regular movies cancelled as it shows the match instead, while the National Stadium is hosting a public screening.

"We really want to see Pakistan win -- it's terrible to watch us lose," said Amjad Islam, an electrical engineering student at Indus University.

Many fans were pinning their hopes on Pakistan's most popular cricketer, captain Shahid Afridi, whose all-round performance against Bangladesh sealed a thumping win.

The World T20 is set to be the 36-year-old's final tournament.

"We want to see Afridi to perform regardless of the outcome," Umaima Tahir, a software engineering student told AFP.
