ICC has made T20 a parody of cricket

by Sep 27, 2012

With 20-over cricket an already reduced format of the match, people have questioned the ICC’s law of playing a shortened game in case of rain hampering the proceedings.

This gave way to the 7-over-a-side match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in the group stages, something purists also called ‘gully cricket’.

“To play a five or seven over slog is reducing a match to a farce. Players would be happy to replay a match rather than play a shorter match. As it is T20 is a lottery and you reduce it to a spoof of the game. It’s becoming a parody of cricket should be.”

We asked for veteran cricket writer Ayaz Memon’s take on the whole issue and he is of the opinion that matches should be replayed if the weather is torrential.

He believes the players would certainly prefer that.
