London: Usain Bolt stuck to tradition in his farewell championships, revving up the crowd at the Olympic Stadium with his aura before he coasted to victory in his first-round heat of the 100 meters.
The Jamaican looked fully at ease as he crossed the line in a slow 10.07 seconds, making sure he finished first as he was already slowing down.
Justin Gatlin, widely booed by the crowd for his past doping conviction, is the biggest threat to Bolt. He won his heat in 10.05.
However, the Jamacian's real test will come on Day 2, when he takes part in men's 100m semi-finals and finals, which will be the major attraction at IAAF World Athletics Championship 2017 on 5 August.
Wayde van Niekerk — who is considered by many, including Bolt — as the next superstar of the game, is another big name that will take part in the meet on the weekend. He will take part in Men's 400m event.
Laura Muir, representing Great Britain, would hope to ride on the home crowd's support during her 1500m event on Day 2.
Meanwhile, for the Indian audience, three athletes will hold the wheels to the hopes of a medal for the country.
Swapna Barman, the gold medallist in the recently held Asian Athletics Championship 2017 in Bhubneswar, will lead India's challenge in the Women's Heptathlon, the first event of which will take place in Saturday afternoon.
Muhammed Anas Yahiya, who represented India previously at the Rio Olympics 2016, would again be at the centre of India's charge in the Men's 400m event.
Dutee Chand would be the flag-bearer for India in Women's 100 event.
