Chennai: India's Rohan Bopanna and India-born American Rajeev Ram progressed with ease into the doubles event quarterfinals of the Aircel Chennai Open tennis tournament.
The third seeded pair took just an hour to dispose off Lu Yen-Hsun (Tpe) and Go Soeda (Jpn) 6-4, 6-3 and they will take on Benoit Paire of France and Stanislas Wawrinka (Sui) in the quarterfinal tie.
Earlier, in another doubles on the side court, German duo of Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich defeated the English pair Jaime Delgado and Ken Skupski 7-6 (3) and 6-2.
In a centre court singles matches, second seed Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia defeated Roger Vasselin Edouard of France 6-2, 6-3 to make the quarterfinal, while fourth seed Stanislas Wawrinka beat Stebe Cedrik Marcel 6-4 6-3.
Later in a late night match, favourites and top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Daniel Nestor of Canada defeated India wild cards duo of Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhian 6-3 6-0 in just 50 minutes.
Bhupathi, who has won 51 career doubles and won two titles last year and Nestor went about this task in a businesslike manner in progressing to the quarterfinals.
Earlier, Somdev Devvarman of India and Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine got the better of the Dutch pair of Robin Haase and Igor Sijsling 7-5, 6-3.
In the quarterfinals, Bhupathi and Nestor take on Raven Klaasen of Russia and Nicholas Monroe of USA, while Rohan Bhopanna and Rajeev Ram plays B Paire (Fra) and Wawrinka (sui). Somdev and Stakhovsky crosses with Ratiwatana brothers of Sanchal and sonchat.
