Carl Lewis to Usain Bolt: Don’t try to mimic what we did

by Aug 13, 2012

Usain Bolt – the star of the London 2012 Olympics – is inching closer to sprinting legend like Carl Lewis. For the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Carl Lewis, the nine time Olympic gold time medalist, has some advice for 26 year old Usain Bolt, who has won six gold medals.

“Whether its me, or what I did, or what Michael Johnson did, we are great champions. We are retired. Its over for us. Don’t try to mimic what we did. Just be yourself,” Lewis told CNN-IBN.

“My advice to him is do not fall into the trap of trying to reach other people’s expectations,” he added.

Usain Bolt holds world records for 100m (9.58sec), 200m (19.19sec) and 4x100m relay(36.84sec). Lewis said that Bolt should only concentrate on 100m and 200m.

“He is talking about 400m, the long jump and other events. He is doing that because he wants to cover all bases. He should forget about that,” Lewis said.

“You are the 100m, 200m guy. You are best in the world. You proved yourself. Just do your bit. Be yourself, do not try to be what other people want you to be,” he added.
