Looks like there is nothing Baba Ramdev cannot do. The yoga exponent left his exercise mat behind and took to the football ground to display some fancy footwork as the brand ambassador of a charity football match held in New Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Sunday.
According to Hindustan Times, Ramdev kick started the match between parliamentarians and Bollywood actors. He also donned football shoes in the same colour as his trademark orange outfit and tried scoring a goal or two.
Ramdev appeared at the event to raise awareness about the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Beti Bachao, Beti Badhao campaign for girl child empowerment, according to ABP Live. The match proceeds too were going to the same campaigns.
While Ramdev, the new-found football enthusiast, did not make any contributions for the charity, his company Patanjali Ayurved was the official refreshment sponsor.
The member of parliament team was led by Babul Supriyo, the minister of state for heavy industries. BJP leader Manoj Tiwari and former Indian football captain and Trinamool Congress MP, Prasun Banerjee were among the other members of the team. The All Stars Football club team of Bollywood actors was led by Abhishek Bachchan and had Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Siddharth Malhotra and several others.
"Baba doesn't take sides," Ramdev told NDTV at the beginning of the match. At the end, the Bollywood team emerged victorious with a score of 10-0.
The event was also said to be conducted to promote football, as India gears up to host the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017.
