AITA to send only one team for Olympics

by Jun 20, 2012

AITA has confirmed that only one doubles team will be sent to the London Olympics. However, the team will be confirmed only tomorrow.

Earlier today, Leander Paes made it clear in a letter to the AITA that he is not keen on partnering a lower-ranked player and if he is forced to do so, then may also pull out of the Games.

Bhupathi has made it clear that he does not want to play with Paes .AFP

Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have both been vocal that they do not want to play with Paes— who is India’s top ranked player and gets automatic qualification to the Olympics.

The AITA came out and said that the situation has changed after Leander’s View today. It ruled out the possibility of two teams representing the nation.

The spat between one of India’s most successful doubles teams has been going on for quite some time now. The sports ministry has refused to intervene in the selection process after the AITA offered them five options to choose from.

With tomorrow being the deadline to submit the teams for the mega-event in London, the AITA has also said that it is consulting senior people and is trying to find a solution.
