What welfare? Rahul turning farms into helipads

by Jan 20, 2012

Rahul Gandhi was greeted with black flags that said Kaale dhan ko wapas lao (bring back the black money stashed abroad) during his public meeting in Bundelkhand on Wednesday. And now, the Congress leader has landed himself in more trouble.

The farmers in Bundelkhand are complaing against the star campaigner of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, saying that he has turned their farms into helipads, reports IBN 7.

Rahul Gandhi has been using helicopters to travel from place to place in Uttar Pradesh during his campaign, but he has been accused of arbitrarily turning farmland into helipads to facilitate his landing, without asking farmers for permission.

A farmer complained, “They destroyed my farm completely. They built the helipad without even taking my permission.” A number of other farmers complained too, reported IBN 7. However, the area DM denied having received any such complaints from the farmers. He said, “there was no farm there. It’s just a rumour.”

It will be interesting to see how events unfold. Is ‘welfare’ just a word for the leaders? Or are they simply benefitting in the name of welfare?
