Mumbai: Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday called JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar and congratulated him for his resounding success in the Bihar Assembly elections. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray also on Sunday congratulated Kumar and Lalu Prasad, and described their win as a “victory for politics of regional pride”. “Uddhavji telephoned Nitish Kumar on Bihar win, congratulated him and called it a victory of his leadership qualities,” said a Sena leader quoting Uddhav. Uddhav also conveyed Diwali greetings in advance and wished Nitish Kumar to run a smooth government in Bihar that would pave the way for development in the state. Earlier in the morning, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has said that Bihar elections results “denotes decline of a leader”, in an apparent reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that it will bring in a “new” turn in the country’s politics. Meanwhile, Raj wished Kumar and Prasad to lead the state on the path of development, so that Biharis do not need migrate to other states. “It’s a victory for the politics of regional pride, development and social justice. I feel that development of Bihar should happen so rapidly that Biharis will stop migrating to Maharashtra and other states,” he said. “Migrant Biharis from all states must aspire to go back to their own state,” Raj said. Notably, the MNS had in the past launched agitations against migrants from north India, accusing them of “usurping jobs” of local youths in Maharashtra. The JDU-RJD-Congress alliance is set for a massive victory in the 243-seat Bihar Assembly polls, trouncing the BJP-led grouping. PTI
