Team Anna hasn’t lost its magic, says Kiran Bedi

by Jul 27, 2012

The number of protestors at the Jantar Mantar may have reduced from last year but according to Team Anna member Kiran Bedi, its not the movement which has lost its magic but its just that the media has chosen not to give it as much coverage.

Anna‘s magic is not missing, its your media coverage is missing and you deliberately denying Anna the coverage. People are noticing that media is deliberately denying the coverage,” the former IPS official Kiran Bedi told CNN-IBN.

“I am not asking for 24 hour coverage. But if you deny even legitimate coverage, I think that is what people are noticing,” she added.

Bedi said that there have been responses to the agitation across India as Anna Hazare has struck a chord with people of India.

“As far Anna is concerned, people in India have found Anna in themselves. Anna has awakened the citizen within. Anna has captured the hearts and imagination of the people. You are counting heads, we are counting the minds,” Bedi said.

According to Bedi, even tough the novelty of the fast has gone, the situation is not hopeless.

“I agree the novelty is gone because its the fourth time Anna has gone on a fast. Anna has become more predictable. But its not a hopeless situation. Now people will look for an opportunity to settle the score,” Bedi said.

If the fast fails this time, Bedi said, it can lead to larger national movement which the government will find difficult to face.

“If this fast does not yield results, then the government is asking for trouble. I do not know whether it will become a political movement, but it will certainly become a national movement. Because it will then go to the grassroots, whether the media covers it or not,” she said.
