Virbhdra Singh, former Minister for small industries, may have resigned from his cabinet post due to allegations of corruption but he refused to let the allegations bog down his political career or his ambition to contest in the upcoming state elections.
Reacting to members of anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare‘s team, who asked Singh not to contest state elections in Himchal Pradhesh unless his name is cleared by the court, the Congress leader said they could not dictate terms to him.“I have respect for Team Anna but they cannot dictate my life,” Singh, a five time CM from Himachal Pradesh, told CNN IBN.
Singh squarely blamed present Himachal Pradesh minister PK Dhumal for the 23-year-old allegations of corruption being re-opened against him and claimed the allegations were fabricated.
“PK Dhumal has fabricated this case by creating false evidence,” Singh said.
“This is not new for me. Earlier also there have been false cases against me, fabricated by PK Dhumal, but I had been acquitted. This time also I will be acquitted,” he added.
The former Himachal Pradesh chief minister resigned yesterday after a court framed charges against Singh and his wife in connection with a 1989 case in which they are accused of accepting bribes.
