Sushma Swaraj has said that the governments unilateral decision to announce 51% FDI in the retail sector was disrespectful to the house. “Parliament is in session and Government announced a decision of such far reaching consequences outside the Parliament. They should have discussed this issue in the Parliament and taken a decision in accordance with the sense of the House. It is a contempt of the house. We cannot accept this”, she said on her Twitter feed. The tweets expressed her ‘surprise’ at a statement made by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee appealing to the opposition to stop disrupting Parliament. " I am surprised to read Pranab Mukherjee’s appeal to opposition to let the Parliament function", she tweeted in response to a news flash that Mukherjee had made a statement reminding the opposition that parliament was for ‘discussion and not disruption’ at the ET Awards for Corporate Excellence. All opposition leaders were present in the House for discussion on price rise at 2 PM on Thursday.I am sorry to say that Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee was not present in the House.” Swaraj also said on her Twitter feed that it was Congress MP’s who had started shouting and disrupting the house on Thursday. “I tried to pursuade them to let the House function but they did not listen…Nobody from Cong tried to control them and House had to be adjourned”, she added.
“Parliament is in session and Government announced a decision of such far reaching consequences outside the Parliament”, said Swaraj on her Twitter feed.
