Shinde: the Home Minister with a smile

by Aug 1, 2012

Sushil Kumar Shinde, India’s Home minister, said today that he was only the second dalit to be made home minister. Keshava Rao, Congress leader, thinks Shinde is the best person for the job as he has the temperament to understand both sides of the coin.

“Today when the federal system is being challenged, we need a person with a smile who is able to understand the two sides. He has to be on the same page as other chief ministers,” Keshava Rao told to CNN-IBN.

“Today you cannot get a better home minister than Shinde. Here is a man with humble beginning,” he added.

Regarding the Adharsh scam, in which Shinde was questioned, Keshava Rao said the home minister would give clarification if needed.

“If Sushil Kumar has to come out with the clarification he would certainly have one. He is not running away from the country,” he said.

On P Chidambaram’s performance as the home minister, Rao was critical about the way he handled the Naxal problem.

“Home ministry is not a ministry of police, this is what I have told Chidambaram in the floor of the parliament. It is not about giving arms to police when you are dealing with Naxalites,” he said.
