Around 15,000 Christians have been left in the lurch after they were duped by a company which promised them a religious trip to Israel. The company is said to have committed a fraud of nearly Rs 34 crore.
A CNN-IBN report said that Vcare Concepts & Sales Private Limited had also promised to build schools and hospitals for the poor to attract contributors.
Many from the Christian community in Mumbai were duped by the scheme, some of them had even put in their entire life's savings expecting it to be used for a good cause.
"I have put in my entire retirement money of Rs 9 lakhs," Clement D'Souza, a duped investor, told CNN-IBN
A chargesheet has been filed against the company's promoter Sunil Saldanah and the company has been sealed by the Thane Economic Offences Wing.
Saldanah devised two schemes — Divine Blessings and Supernatural Blessings — to target the Christian community. He also built a prayer hall in Thane, where after prayers sessions, he would speak about his investment schemes.
