Rahul meets Pranab alone, says they learnt a lot from him

Jun 25, 2012

New Delhi: “We learn a lot from him” was how Rahul Gandhi acknowledged the significance of Pranab Mukherjee as he drove down to the Finance Minister’s North Block Office
on his last day in government.

The gesture by the young leader came close on the heels of the Congress Working Committee meeting, which saw Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying the trouble shooter of Congress and the UPA will be “missed”.

Rahul was present at the CWC meeting but still went to meet Mukherjee personally. Emerging after the hour-long meeting, Gandhi said Mukherjee is one of the most experienced Congress leaders.

“We learn a lot from him. It was a matter of great happiness that he was going to become the President of the country,” Gandhi said.

After the CWC meeting earlier, AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said Mukherjee will file his nomination on June 28. Mukherjee has said he will resign as Finance Minister tomorrow.

Today’s CWC meeting is the last that Mukherjee, the senior most member of the Committee, will be attending.
