President Pranab slams anti-Islam film

Srinagar: President Pranab Mukherjee Thursday reacted strongly to the anti-Islam video that has attracted widespread condemnation in Islamic countries for its depiction of the Prophet of Islam in poor light.

Reacting to a media query about the anti-Islam video, Pranab Mukherjee said: “I condemn in the strongest of terms, the making of the offensive video and its dissemination through social media.

“India can never condone any act which disparages religious sentiments or hurts religious feelings. The ministry of external affairs is in touch with US officials who share our concerns on the matter.

“Google India has, in compliance with Indian law, blocked access to the offensive material.”

President Mukherjee is on his maiden three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

He addressed the 18th convocation of Kashmir University earlier Thursday.

He expressed the hope that the youth from Kashmir would lead in forging the future of the country as equal partners in the opportunities which would be created as the IT revolution opens up new vistas of knowledge and development in the country.
