With the Gujarat Assembly polls drawing closer, questions are being raised if the people of Becharaji town who lost pastural lands for the proposed Maruti Suzuki plant will get employment in the automobile unit.
The sale of 700 acre green pastures land at the Mandal-Becharaji sub-division has made life difficult for the people as it resulted in a shortage of food for their livestock.
Citizen journalist Sharvari Raval asks if the Gujarat government will ensure that the displaced people will get employment at the auto unit.
On 2 June this year, Gujarat entered into a pact with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd for the Rs 4,000 crore plant.
While the two-phase project is likely to employ 2,000 people directly, it is said that more than 10,000 people each will get indirect employment in both the phases respectively.
The Gujarat polls are scheduled for 13 and 17 December. The counting is on 20 December.
